Anyway to eliminate the govenor?

What's up y'all! Hey, me and a couple of my friends were riding in the 8 and like always I wanted to know this things true power and from what I read this thing is a beast from 60+. So of course my friends were egging me on and I got on it, but she shutted off at 125mph...Is there a way to get around this for cheap w/o ruining warranty? Well if anyone knows anything let me know!

If you do a search for the word 'govenor' will will find other threads on the subject but the simple answer is NO. You have an AT correct? You should read this thread

He has an automatic. There is, I believe a fuel shut-off at a certain speed. Manual tranmission don't have a governor.

Mine is an automatic, Im not sure on the 6 speeds though. Yes, I know rx-8s aren't made for serious power, but I don't like seeing a little honda civic si passing me when I cut out :-p Doesn't look right! Also, he has cai, exhaust so I want to eat his rice and spit it back up at him! Hehe.

Maybe so...but I'm better off with an automatic since I have bad knee's and I've had surgery on both of them. But I know what you mean though...But I love my rx-8 so thats all that should matter, right? Hehe!

I was asking myself the same question with my AT, it would always cut right at 125. So what I did was trade it in for a 6spd. I couldn't find anything that would remove the govenor. With the AT I was running 17.2 at the track with my MT I ran a 15.095 and thats with a bad reaction time. Just go and get a manual or FI your AT if your finance can handle it.

Then an American V-8 like a GTO, Mustang, or Charger would be your answer.

Bleh, I hate american cars...I love the sound of imports and I'll never switch to an american vehichle, but I don't really need to go over 125 since I wouldn't come close to that on a track! So maybe I should stick with 1/4mile races, hehe. But, here soon when I sell my eclipse slapping on an exhaust for sure. I've done some searching and read that some exhaust are adding 13whp (Borla I know for Sure) So thats going to be my first mod. But I don't know about all this Race Pipe crap people talking about. I mean I know what it is, but is it really worth it? I know the noise level is probably really raspy, but the 8 purrs like a little kitten and I don't mind sounding like a lion if its worth the money and time.

Sounds like your the perfect candidate for a Civic. Highway racing is dumb and I don't need you slamming into a tree and raising my insurance rates. Obviously if you are so eaasily influenced by your friends you shouldn't be in control of more than 100 hp.

Thats not very nice Damien. Civics are for 16 year old's that have spoiled parents and don't want them to go faster then 85. I, being 20 affording this all on my own plus I have a fiance and I don't live with my parents, I have got one speeding ticket took defensive driving and no accidents on my record. So if you read right on my post it says that I wanted to feel the power since i've never got on it before. Everyone has raced on the highway! So what it sounds like is that you need to buy a civic because your obnoxious, and you don't need to be on this forum.
