another stupid rx-7 plug question
I know that if I were to run the rx-7 plugs in the T position I have to add a shim but what about the L position. I seems as if the 7 plugs came with a shim so do I keep it or remove it. I'll be running OE trailing and 7 leading plugs.

^all plugs have that shim, you cant even take that one off...what you do need is either a (1) 2mm shim or (2) 1mm shims that actually go on top of that (per spark plug), your best bet is going to home depot and looking for 4 or 2 washers (shims) thatll fit snug on there

RX-7 engines use spark plugs on both the leading and trailing sides that are about 20.8mm thread length (or so). The Renesis uses that same length on the leading side (which is why we use the BUR9EQPs in SOME boosted applications), but the trailing side is only 18mm (or so). That is why we still use the RE9B-Ts in MOST boosted applications. Any boosted applications which require plugs colder than these need special "racing" plugs, which are more expensive than most of you will want to know.
Thus, you can use a pair of BUR9EQPs in the lead position and a pair of RE9B-Ts in the trailing position with no need for shims.

dozer - alright let me get this straight. I have to shim the rx-7 trailing plugs when running them in the leading position. I've tried a few searches and have yet to find anyone else saying the 7 plugs need to be shimmed for running them in the leading position. I did however find where you asked the same question but never recieved a reply.
Here's what i've gathered. ALL rotarys have had 21mm plugs excpt for the 8 which has 19mm trailing. Couldn't find anything reguarding the leading lenght but from what I read it seemed that the leading was a traditional 21mm. Guess I'll mic them when I change and see for sure, too easy right.
Well damn 3 replys before I got my question out.

So, tell us what you think now, because I'm not convinced you understand it yet.
Did you read what Ray(Charles Hill) wrote? Even though he went more in depth than he had to for your overall question, it is contained in there.
Don't pay attention to what maxx said!

Yeah, if you think about it.........the reason why you have to shim the rears(if using plugs that are 21mm in length) is that if you don't, they will stick in farther(~2mm or so) and may/will contact the rotors!
That would be very, very bad! AND...............it has been done by some folks!
I just didn't want it to happen to you!
