Airbag issue - install a racing seat
I want to install a recaro racing backet seat since I bought my 8. The reason why I have not done yet is the stock seat airbag issue. I already did searching the forum so many times and it seems no one has changed their seat AND solve the airbag problem. Here is what I want to accomplish:
1. replace the driver leather seat with recoro pole-position backet seat
2. have an adapter / resister (how many ohms) plug in the airbag sensor to fool the airbag module thinking that the seat airbag is still there
3. have all the remaining 7 airbags still operational
So anyone has any idea on:
1. what resister I should use for the seat airbag, or is there any adapter available?
2. if I leave it without any resister/adapter, will the remaining 7 airbags still operational (I know the dash airbag light is going to come on)?
Thanks a lot!!

I have tangled with this issue and I don’t think you will be able to trick the system into thinking there the OEM seat is installed with a .10 resister. Without knowing exactly what you are doing you risk damaging some of the electrical system. I highly doubt the others bags would not fire simply because the system finds a problem with ONE of the bags in the car. That would leave Mazda open to huge liability claims. This is my suggestion, I have not done this but it could work.
First figure out which of the two connectors under the seat (if you have a power seat) is for the air bags and cut it off. Then get some extra wire of similar gauge and splice the connector into the harness of the passenger side seat. So what you are doing tricking the car into thinking BOTH seat installed air bags are working. Again I have not done this but if it doesn’t work you can re-attach the connector no harm, no foul.

Thanks for the info expo1. I never thought about that option before. However here are the questions:
1. if the driver side airbag connector is connected to the passenger side airbag, when there is a side impact (accident) to the driver side, the passenger side seat airbag will deploy, am I right?
2. would connecting two connectors into one airbag change the resistant/current/voltage and end up having two mul-function airbag codes (both driver seat and passenger seat), or even deploy the passenger seat airbag when connecting it?
Thanks again for the info.

** just guessing**
1, Yes but at that point does it matter?
2, If the airbg light goes on yes, only a accident should set off the bags.

It looks like nobody changed their seat with the airbag issue solved! However I know that sti has the seat airbag too but they would be able to put a 3.2ohm (or mabe 3.3) resistor to fool the computer. Again any info would help a lot.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Does this sound like an elementary excercise in electronics?
1. Figure out wiring diagram for seat connector.
2. Unplug connector.
3. Apply multimeter across airbag leads to establish open and closed resistance.

Huh? I'm talking about the connector on the seat. I'm not aware of an airbag within the seat itself.
