agency vs greddy sp2

i wana get an exhaust and ive done a lot of research on this forum and the two ive come up with are the agency power exhaust and greddy sp2. the greddy sp2 seems to have a good rep and it seems to have a moderate sound too from what ive read.. but the agency is alot louder and i absolutely love the blue end on the tips but it costs about 200 more.. i really want a combination of the sp2 with the tips of the agency.. is there anny exhausts out there for me? and if ya got any sound/video clips of the agency or sp2 post em plz thannkz

that 200 bucks you pay extra is for the midpipe (with resonator) in regards too the Agency Power exhaust...

From my personal experience of having the Agency Power, my only concern throughout the whole time I've owned it is having the tips melt the plastic around it... This was mostly my fault because I chose a bunch of idiots too do the original install of my exhaust, then I paid them...

You could always pick the exhaust you want by sound, then have a shop weld on some tips you like. Mix n' match, you might just fall in love with your own personally made exhaust...

am i alone in the dislike of incredibly loud exhaust?

i would not mind having my rx8 have 400whp and sound no different than it does right now. hell, if it were quieter, all the better.

Here is a clip from Agency Power with their catback exhaust w/ mid pipe.
http://www.agency-power.com/images/aprx8clip.wmv

I personally have the AP exhaust with the midpipe. At first you'll love the loud sound because it makes you feel like you're driving really fast, but after a few months you'll get tired of the loud noise and the gas smell. If you get the AP package, I would recommend that you leave the cat on until you go FI, THEN put the midpipe on.

The AP is loud for sure with the midpipe. When I got mine, I only had time to do the exhaust & not replace the cat. Its a great sounding exhaust, for sure. Then, when I had time, I swapped the cat out, with the midpipe & it is damn loud at times. Normally after I've driven it for a bit, I tend to drown out the sound a bit, so I get used to it. Also, if you are using the stock rear, you might run into a problem of melting the plastic exhaust guards. I have mine removed, till I get the new rear bumper because the AP exhaust sat right on the plastic.. Infact, I drove for maybe five minutes one day, after a show & remembered the plastic pieces were on, & both sides were melted a bit. So I'd def. suggest the AP exhaust, but watch your fitment & if you want quiet, keep the cat.

I have had this same debate. I want a 3' exhaust for when I go FI, but I don't need the midpipe just yet, and I could go without melting my bumper. I'm starting to lean towards the HKS Hi-power over the AP and Greddy.

I figure the stock bumper doesn't look too bad with only one exhaust tip, and the HKS will flow better and weighs less, and its cheaper

I have Tanabe Ultra Medalion on mine and I love it! It's quiet at low rpm, but agressive during during higher rpm!

I have the Greddy SP2 along with the RP supercat midpipe. Very happy with the combination. Just be careful of the huge exhaust tips of the Greddy, they get very hot!!

Hey HCT, I also have the greddy and I've noticed that it seems to be changing from a chrome to a more bronze tint. Have you noticed anything like this and does that seem normal? Do you think a good chrome cleaner would restore the chrome look. I think it's weird.

I would think if you gave it a nice good cleaning it should help take away that bronze tint, not too sure though.. Its not rust is it???

I had this combo and I wasn't really satisfied with the combo because of the 3" piping in the midpipe being choked down to ~2.5" in the catback. I swapped out the SP2 for the EVOTT just a week ago and I love the sound. Plus, the EVOTT's titanium tips look sexy!

I don't think you can really compare the agency power exhaust to the sp2 since they really have much in common with the exception that they are both made for the rx-8. The agency power exhaust comes with a catless midpipe while the greddy doesn't change the midpipe at all. Plus, the agency power uses 3" piping all the way through while the greddy has 65mm piping which works fine with the stock cat and sounds great but isn't that great for turbo applications

Deaf.

Just installed the AP exhaust last night, which didnt come with the cat-delete pipe cause I got it used, but I already have the Racing Beat cat delete pipe... Whoa! crap! Time to put the cat back on (until I go turbo, that is, if I go turbo). This is an obnoxiously loud combination...

And of course I got pulled over this morning (for speeding on the freeway trying to hear my new exhaust note at 9K!) but managed not to get a ticket. I was scared shitless though wondering if when I started the car and pulled away from the cop he was going to cite me for the 50 decibel law violation! He did comment that my car "really scoots along nicely".

As woodsofgreen also mentioned, I melted my bumper inserts too, just by driving around the block last night, which really sucks cause I just had them and the lower bumper modded and painted TiGray. I am going to get the stainless exhaust finishers I think and also get some worm gear clamps on the hangers to raise the exhaust up an inch or so (shoulda did that in the first place).

Dont get me wrong, it sounds awesome, but it is really too much for the street IMHO. We"ll see how it sounds with the cat instead of the RB straight pipe - heck, at least my CEL will go away with the cat re-installed!!! I never thought Id ever put that thing back on....oh well. The blue tips sure are cool with the exhaust shrouds temporarily removed

It does suck having to remove those shrouds.. Sorry to hear about your bumper.. I do agree that the AP exhaust is made for turbo applications I believe.. Plus something other than the stock bumper, but it does sound great..

LOL... Its been a few weeks since I reinstalled my cat back on from the Agency Power midpipe (still have the Agency Power catback on of course). I completely forgot what the car sounds/feels like with the cat on. You'll notice a difference when you WOT thats for sure! And it'll take awhile to get used to not having a CEL also! I still glance down expecting to see it!

HAHAHAHA! Going to my buddy's house right now who has a lift in his garage, and gonna swap this cat back in... Gonna reset that CEL with sCANalyzer and plug my air pump back in too! Also just got some used TPMS sensors too for my Axis Hiro wheels, so yea, it will be real crazy not having any yellow 'bug lights' for once!!!!! Hopefully this cat will tame the exhaust down enough...I still want some growl, just not the full bore, 'just pulled out of pit lane' roar that I have now...

aaaaahhhhhh, much nicer with the cat back on... it made it at least 400% less loud.
Almost too quiet...BUT, it has that nice deep growl now that I was looking for. CEL is gone! I don't wanna spew too much butt-dyno BS by saying that it feels a bit torquier down low with the cat back on, but lemme just say that it feels a bit torquier down low with the cat back on! Is there really that much exhaust scavenging/torque effect going here with the Renesis? Or am I just high on exhaust fumes? Jon316G, still have yet to get a chance for a WOT run with the cat back on...but looking forward to it

Yeah... I could really feel the restrictiveness with the cat back on. It seems to take longer to accelerate threw gears now. On a road near my house I used to be able to hit over 80MPH before having to slow down for the next stop sign. With the cat on, I can barely make it to 75MPH without pushing my luck.
