anyhow, have had the aem on the car for a month and a half now. absolutely love it. only thing i didnt like was the fact that i couldnt really put the engine cover on, as it looked kinda stupid, having the big old intake tube right there.

so what i decided to do was modify a stock airbox, allowing me to hide the itake, and put the engine cover on and look almost perfectly stock. added bonus, i can now put 2 quarts of oil in the modded airbox, as well as my funnel :D

ok, enough joking around. all in all, this took maybe 1.5 hours.

i also plan on packing the box with ice when i got to the track, just to see if i helps any.

Maybe if it was sealed ice water.. and maybe some cooling fins in teh intake tube...
but... i think the air flows too fast to get much cooling from the normal tube

Maybe you could use "dry ice" (they use it in rally)

Some info:

Dry Ice is frozen carbon dioxide, a normal part of our earth's atmosphere. It is the gas that we exhale during breathing and the gas that plants use in photosynthesis. It is also the same gas commonly added to water to make soda water. Dry Ice is particularly useful for freezing, and keeping things frozen because of its very cold temperature: -109.3°F or -78.5°C. Dry Ice is widely used because it is simple to freeze and easy to handle using insulated gloves. Dry Ice changes directly from a solid to a gas -sublimation- in normal atmospheric conditions without going through a wet liquid stage. Therefore it gets the name "dry ice."

As a general rule, Dry Ice will sublimate at a rate of five to ten pounds every 24 hours in a typical ice chest. This sublimation continues from the time of purchase, therefore, pick up Dry Ice as close to the time needed as possible. Bring an ice chest or some other insulated container to hold the Dry Ice and slow the sublimation rate. Dry Ice sublimates faster than regular ice melts but will extend the life of regular ice.

I think -78°C is cold enough to make a difference

a buddy of mine pointed out that regualr ice would not be a good idea, as if i dripped some on the track and caused someone to go into the wall and wreck, it wouldnt be cool

 

dry ice would work, as long as your moving, if you were to stop and idle you might be taking in some co2 with the air for the intake or the cabin air, not that I think it would make much difference in running of the car.

just make sure your moving and have the windows down.

I can put my engine cover on with my typhoon intake. It comes with a bracket for that.

does the AEM come with it's own intake screens or do you re-use the ones from the OE air boxD

 

its a little bit of work to make it through the stock air box, as well as taking a little liberty with which order the shorter pipes get put in.

its not so sleeper now with the mazdaspeed strut bar in place, but as you can see, it is a great place to stoer oil

how are the screens held in place?
