I think I am going to go with the K&N Gen 2... I've heard it in clips and with some help from 'speeddemon32' i've decided on it... ebay has it for 250 shipped...

i have the K&N on my 8. you can definetly feel the car pull more in the higher rpms. i'm sure that the aem will be a little better because it is bringing in outside air where the K&N stays in the engine bay. the install is going to be easier on the K&N because it does not require you to remove the front bumper. the K&N is loud but bearable not sure about the aem. i would recommend the K&N but get what you want.

There is a huge difference between a stock intake that sucks air from the bumper, and one that sucks air from the engine bay. With engine bay air, you're going to see intake temps about 10 degrees lower than the coolant once the car is warmed up, if you're not traveling around at high enough speed. Higher intake temps will mean better chance of pinging.

I see zero reason to get an intake that sucks engine bay air. If you think you can feel more power, you should get your butt dyno recalibrated. Best numbers for intakes seems to be about 3 hp, which is so small you would not be able to notice.

I have it only because that's how the greddy turbo kit ships, but I'm putting together a CAI ASAP to resolve this situation.

My personal vote is to go for none of the above and instead do the Racing Beat Revi. Either that or leave it stock.

I dont think you need 50+ Mph to move the hot air back, 5 Mph is more than enough. I have K&N and the intake temp its not that higher than stock when sit in traffic, its higher, but nowhere near coolant temp. but once its moving, its cooler than stock.

AEM seems to be a better solution for some, but have fun when it rains, and also when it comes to cleaning ......

I would rather get K&N(mine) or Racing beat than AEM or Mazdaspeed(Rebadged)

Are you monitoring your intake temps? I've been watching the last month and I can tell you sitting in 80-90 degree temp traffic that the intake temps will rise till they're 160 - 170 F, while coolant sits anywhere from 180 to 200. Driving around will lower the temps, but I think you overestimate what 5 mph can do for you.
