3RD oil cooler
i was wondering if a third oil cooler would be beneficial at all?? i have a b and m one chillen here in the garage and i was going to throw it on.... will it decrease oil pressure significantly? is it just not worth while?

MadDog added a third cooler and found that the factory coolers sort of suck.

Alternatively, you might just replace the two stock coolers instead of adding a third. I'm surprised Mazsport or Racing Beat or someone hasn't made a kit yet.

I put in a 2nd Gen RX-7 cooler...didn't affect the pressure much...and the car seemed cooler...but I didn't have an oil temp guage.......
I took it out to have some work done on the car...and haven't re-installed it. Waiting to decide what I'm doing with the FI thing...cause it won't fit with a front mount IC

hmm i think i know a way you dont have to worry about a front mount... hmm what could it be...
dan where did you mount it and where did you get your source of oil.... inline with the stock coolers or form the filter?

I figured you'd figure out what I was figurin
I ran it in series off the drivers side oil cooler. The banjo fittings are standard parts from a hydraulic fitting store......I had some hoses made up...and made brackets to hold the cooler in front of the rad.........

Actually the brackets took about 1 hr to make.....bit of welding..and some paint
The hoses cost me about $60 to make and took about 1/2 hr...cause the shop is about 10 min from home.....
The problem with replacing the stock ones is getting the room to install them...and getting the airflow once they are there. If you go MS front with the bigger openings OK...but otherwise the coolers that we have pretty much max out the air available.
I think that there are more efficient units than the stock ones...but I'm not so sure it would be enough to justify the PIA factor for putting them in.
PS: I found that altering the OEM cooling fans made a much bigger difference in the temps on the track than the oil cooler mod that I did.....My car was OK when I was running...it was the slowing down stuff that caused the temps to spike.
Mazport Scott's Fan Mod....would be the way to go for most people...it gives you better cooling for a minimum alterations on your car...and your pocketbook

i was thinking of doing the mazsport thing, koyo or similar rad, my fans from my old car (flow 2400 cfm), and the third oil cooler cause its sitting around here... now can i use an fittings and not the banjo bolts... i figure the restriction in and out will allow the oil to stay in the cooler long enough to disperse the heat

Once I get that Accolade prototype front bumper/fenders, I think that I'm going to look into upgrading the stock oil coolers... My only issue is what company/kind of oil coolers to use...
