20B - 3 Rotor

Can anybody help me find out where to purchase a 20B - 3 Rotor Engine, maybe do a swap with the Renessis plus some cash? How much is this engine? Just want some more Horses under the hood. The Greddy Turbo is nice, but need the added horses of the 20B - 3 Rotor and Supercharger!!!

How complicated is the engine swap?

Thanks,

Mark

its about as complicated as $40,000 to do it right. yes that's 4 zeros.

acosta racing has done the swap.

A plain nonturbo 3 rotor could be done by yourself for as little as $10K. It would be alot of work and you'd never pass emissions testing again.

I wonder how many more future threads we're going to see with people wanting/dreaming of dropping a 3 rotor in the 8? This is the second one that I can rememer of. I'm thinking most think it will be an easy and affordable swap. Even at 10k for an NA 3-rotor swap as RG state is still expensive.

Would a V8 swap be any easier?

Is the 13b from the FD a more economical swap? You can pick those engines up for about 2-3Gs.

^^^^Why would you want to ?

Unless you are going to put a lot into the motor in mods....it's not much better than a renesis stock. Might as well mod your renesis and see what it can do.

Just my $.02............

Unless you are looking for 350+ rwhp it is not really economical to swap out the renesis. You can get 240+ whp with the Greddy, 280+ with the SSR turbo unit. A 20B would require a engine frame brace, not to mention much electronic work, tranny upgrades, etc. Also Pettit just did a 20B swap for an RX7 in this month's Turbo magazine.

I'm thinking there's a ton of misconception about the 20b, these cars aren't Gm products, it's not as easy as dropping another motor in, there's electrical to think about, tranny, engine mounts etc... seems like it will be a ton of work and a ton of money.

I know that the swap into an FD is very intensive--the tranny actually is moved further back-i.e. your gear shift is further back in the tunnel. Like previously said, its a $40,000+ conversion; however you end up with a Porsche 911 Turbo / Viper beater. This is a swap for the most fanatical of rotorheads.

I heard there was a company that puts GM 350's into RX-7's. Do they do 8's now? If I didn't love the amazing balace of my car, I would so drop in a new LS-7. 500hp and the torque to go with it would be awesome. I love the Renesis, but there's a soft spot in my heart for a big V8.

On a side note, my father and I want to buy someone's old '67 Firebird Convertable and drop in one of the new GM ZZ572/620 engines. 572cui, 620hp and 650ftlb's... and private dynos confirm that as ussual, GM has UNDER-RATED these engines... Damn is this thing going to be fast.

you may, however, place a rotary into.....anything. because that makes it a million times cooler. :P

I know what you are talking about. There stuff is pretty pricey. I've always been led to believe that the 20B is a very rare engine. If you can get it for $3500 that sounds really cheap.

petit along with MANY other rotary shops swapped 20b's into seven's a long time ago, its not that big of a deal, but untill some rotary tuner's start mustering up the ***** to crack open and potentially demolish a 30,000 dollar car we're not going to be seeing any commonly available 20b swaps(even at an expensive cost) and i know Acosta does it for 60k but its pretty much everything down to the wheels and tires. thats a little less/more than the car brand new

hell yeah, if you want maximum power, im guessing about 50hp on the port, 25 from piggyback ECU tuning, and 100 from the SSR and then 25 from bolt ons(blitz/HKS/greddy/AEM intake, UR pulleys, headers, SR midpipe w/ hiflo cat, and cat)

a car with all that stuff tacked on it should be running about 375whp
