I suspect that the differences between the ECU's would make working on US ones impossible. Perhaps it's a difference in encryption... I dunno.

What steps are the companies taking to ensure that the dyno works? The only steps that I am aware of are to Disable your DSC/TCS and remove the rear ABS sensors. Are there any other steps that they are taking on top of the ones that I have mentioned?

Hi all.
What is an ECU tune and what does it entail?
Pardon,,, but I’m new.
My dealer mech mentioned I might wanna look into a modified chip, changing my exhaust and going with a cold intake. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The ECU controls the fueling of the engine among other things. By leaning out the mixture in various spots of the map, the engine can produce more hp, in exchange for higher cat temperatures, which may lead to reduced cat life. If a tuner has access to the Mazda maps/software, they can create their own flash for the ECU. Flashing the ECU is a simple process that simply requires a cable and CAN-pass-thru programmer.

A question for hflax/ElScorpio: Can you provide some more information about the programming procedure that you are using. Are you reprogramming the EEPROM chip removed from the car, or are you using a CAN-pass-thru?
Did you download the original code from the ECU?
How did you tweak it? Did you simply replace a few bytes with a hex editor (the target AFR?). Or did you dissasemble the code and then re-compile?
What software/hardware is required?
Thanks

yeah and pass thru devices cost like $1500 dollars not exactly a cheap solution. im looking into finding a less expensive way.

I was thinking about that too. My thought was that the CAN system is just a protocol. If we could find the spec for it ** AND ** the spec for a CAN connector, then it would be a fairly simple piece of software to perform a download. The difficulty is in gathering all the information, not the implementation.
Hardware wise, I am guessing you are talking about using a CANSCAN connector? Thats the route I would probably go with.
