GT3 cars may not have a ton of HP, but MD Z would have to have a ton of grip to out run a GT3 through the twisties. Leh's 997 GT3 runs 1:27s with qualifying runs in the 1:25's. I will double check his vids, but I am pretty sure that is right.

Again, taking nothing at from MD car, I know it will be quick, but GT3 cars are very well sorted.

Actually it will be in the TTU class not the TTR class. The car with me in it would have to weight less than 3200# with the horse power goals (550rwhp) I have in mind before I get moved to TTR. So I wouldn't be against any GT3 Cup car, but could be against modified GT3's.
Don't think my car would be competitive against a tube frame car unless I fully seem welded the car like the Playboy 350Z's that do very well against GT3 Cup cars.

MD, you are right on, stiffness is the key, and the PB car did do very well. If you seam welded it, and sub'd it, you would be very close. I don't know what suspension your running, so, I can't make a call there, but the advantage of the GT3 cars is definitely stiffness.

I am all about a stiff chassis and a soft suspension on a sports car.

I like soft settings, but I like progressive spring rate though. I like to know I have some taughtness before bottoming out. With 550whp, you will need some serious grip, and brakes. The evo's I drove that had more than 450whp would destroy the tires and pads and get step out under hard accel., and that was with AWD. I can't imagine how it will be with only rwd. you will have quite a bronc to tame at alot of tracks. i can assure you it will be FUN though.

My car had more than enough grip with 440rwhp, yet I want to be able to steer the car with the right foot so I want more torque than the rear tires can handle in a corner. The only time I had a problem with 440rwhp was when the VLSD finally went than I was burning rubber with the inside tire. The Z chassis is really stiff and the suspension transfers the weight very well so the hook up should not be a problem. Now, brake pad and bushing life will be a problem!

+1 on that. watching him rip down the straights will be a site, especially when the Corvette boys are trying to figure out how they are getting passed by a little Japanese car.

It's the wing. The vette's got no wing.

I would make a comment about downforce and driver skills, and wings, but MD's car might actually need that wing to stay on the ground, and he is proving himself to be a competent pilot.

Yes - TA - Delta keeps calling for its wing back. I am not going to sell S&TF my car, so back on track with getting him a great track car.

S&TF - Have you seen the new GT-R's that are coming out in 2008? If you have the money - I would wait and take a look at one of these cars as unlike the older models, this one is going to be sold in the US.

Here are some pic's:

Yeah, I have looked at it, but I refuse to get another car that costs that much. I have already walked away from an RS4 and a used M5 (06). I want to get something I can 'own' in less than 1 year.

However, word on the street is the new Skyline is going to be FAST. One of the forum members on the Evo forum caught the new Skyline at the ring, testing. The 'unofficial' lap times was in the 7:50's, which was on a 'open' track day. For reference, the new Z06 and new 911 did 1:48 and 1:43 on a closed track day, so the Skyline could potentially be quicker than both on a closed track pushing hard.

Saturday, i am going to test drive a Z, but I will probably due nothing till June. I want to get some more stuff done to my home computer (car sim) which will not be cheap. I am buying another new computer, which will not be cheap.

I will keep you guys informed, should I get weak, and show up at Roeblin with something.

I talked about these with a buddy of mine, and it is a good choice. Unfortunately, the closest one is in ATL, and I won't get to drive it anytime soon.

.
Nissan now uses the name Skyline for the G35 in Japan, so the old Skyline GT-R will now just be called a GT-R.

Have fun test driving the Z.

If you are looking at a 2 seater, what about a NSX? I always loved those cars and met a bunch of nice people who where driving them at Sebring last year.

A used 2005 NSX is going for $73,000, that is a little pricey in my book. I bet you could find a few for sale in good shape down in Florida. If you want I could ask as I am meeting some NSX owners this weekend at Sebring.
