Smile Oh yeah, sleep.

Anyone have a summer house in Jacksonville they aren't using for the Super Bowl weekend? :D

Well, it looks like I'll be going to the Super Bowl with a friend. That leaves me with a lot of planning and not much time. I've already got my tickets and flight plans (to Orlando), but don't know where to stay.

Well, far be it from me to impose upon another forum member, so I was wondering if anybody knows of a cheap place to stay in the Jacksonville area. I figure most if not all the reasonably priced hotels have been booked for months, and the ones left are mucho dinero. Is anyone here a hotel manager, or know of a campsite between Orlando and Jacksonville, or have a yacht docked in the Gulf they aren't using?

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't book a yacht on the Gulf. Jacksonville's on the Atlantic.

You could try hotels in Gainesville. It's about 90 minutes away from Jacksonville. That or start picking cities west on I-10 or north or south on I-95.

Well you could probably stay in Lake City, it is about 45 min west of Jacksonville. My parents live there. I live in Jacksonville and if you want to stay closer than that you are going to need to look for places south on I-95, or my roommate and I are both members here, hotel de RX-8 would probably be open after talking it over with my roommate.....

There are craploads of cheap hotels in/near Jax and the stadium. My friends and/or I go down there every year for the UGA/UF game and, us being recent/current college students, we went on a shoestring budget. When we Expedia'd or Pricelined it, we always found cheap hotels just a little down the highway. Obviously, check those discount sites (also try http://www.travelzoo.com , my favorite one). Also, it might not be listed, but my friend keeps telling me there's a Motel6 or something like two blocks from the Landing (where all the bars are) that's really cheap and no one knows about it. Maybe BlueGrim or someone else who lives in Jacksonville could be more specific than I am able to be.

THe only problem with your suggestion mike is THE SUPERBOWL IS HERE .....every hotel within a 30-40 mile radius is booked solid. Most people are booking in Orlando and driving here the day of. I promise you there is not a hotel room in this town available

^ you are correct sir ^ Thanks for the suggestion though Mark.

Well, right now the plan is to stay with the friend in Orlando on Thursday and maybe friday, then head over towards Jacksonville early Saturday morning. I may be able to get in on a house rental somewhere near Jacksonville with a few people I don't know. I have to see how that works out. If you know of any areas to avoid, let me know. I also checked out the Carnival cruise ship on the river - cool idea, but expensive.

Grim - I would take you up on your generous offer but I'm coming down with a friend and may be picking up another friend for the weekend (found out yesterday). I could always go for a good bowl of soup though. :p I'm sure you would know the best places to go - if you care to share, I'd gladly buy you and your roommate a beer or two.

Thanks for your help

8is Here is a link to the Streets that will be closed, so if you are mapping a route out for when you visit make sure you watch out for these areas: Road Closures

If you want to give me a call sometime while you are here my name is James and my cell is 386-344-0675 if you get lost or need anything.

We will probably be checking out the NFL Experience that is set up down by the stadium sometime Thursday or Friday. If you are coming from Orlando I would suggest that you go I-4 over to I-95 this way you are coming in from the South.

I think that covers it all, hope you have a good trip! And if anyone cancels and you end up with an extra ticket give me a CALL!!!

The Super Bowl--more attended than the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party? Never Actually, it would make sense that there are more rooms available during the Georgia-Florida game--us (former) college students like to pack 8-10 people into a room :D

Jerry also mentioned Gainesville. I loathe the orange and blue of that place, but yes, it's almost a straight shot and less than a 2-hour drive. I just cheked Expedia for you and there aren't even rooms in any towns within an hour radius. *gulp* Good luck!

Thanks, Blue. I'll probably give you a call on Saturday.

Flying into Orlando 1/28 and I'm going to stay there for two nights.
We will be driving into Jacksonville early Saturday morning (me and two friends). We will then proceed to drink ourselves silly. We're meeting a fourth friend Saturday night.
Lodging is still up in the air (sort of) as we're staying in friend's hotels unless we can find a place nearby - yes there are still some vacancies. Gotta go. If there's anything I forgot, let me know.
Thanks guys.
