New In Central Fl

Hello all! I just got my rx8. I live in orlando and was wondering if there were many peeps around central FL? I came from a cobra to this car and have never been happier. Please excuse the many stupid questions I may ask Just wanted to say hello.

Thumbs up

Northeast Florida here (Jacksonville).

There are quite a few active RX8 fans in the Orlando area.

In addition to this fine site, you may also want to introduce yourself to the folks at www.flrx8club.net.

Most all of them lurk on this board, and also hit that board as well.

You'll find a lot of comraderie with your new car.

And remember = Better MPG means fewer SPG.. (thats Smiles per Gallon).

And, if you want to have some fun with your car, there are a few autocrosses that regularly occur around Gainesville, Deland, Brookville, etc.

Welcome to the club!

See my sig.. I have alot of mods. If I could do it all over again I would install my AFE short shifter first (after my RB screens that is). If you come out to a meet you can see our cars. We're a pretty modded crew.

That sounds great. Its good to see there are many 8s around this area. I will try to make it down to that pizza shop, but is there any chance of a waterford lakes area meet anytime soon?

I live in Pensacola, but am considering a move to central Florida. I see very few 8s on the road here, so feel like my car stands out. Maybe in central Florida I'd just be one of many!

You should hit the boards and suggest it. I'm running out of ideas for meets so a WFL meet would be good. We have at least 5 members on that side of town.

Looks like the next meet is going to be in Waterford, so feel free to head on out! And just to calm any fears you may have about meeting up with all us big, bad car gurus - our meets are hardly centered on the cars, they're mostly just about grabbing some grub with friends and having a good time.

Anyway, I'm in the Avalon area mostly, but I usually make a few Waterford runs every week. I'll keep an eye out for all you new folks. Pretty sure I've seen Strong Bad around though - you've had your car for a while, right?

(PS - my car's stock )

It's all a matter of personal preference. I'm partial to a short shifter as the first mod, then probably an exhaust (just because I love the sound, not necessarily for any gains), and then I'd deck out the suspension. It's kind of tough to see any major power gains with this engine, so I think I'd be happier with a nice suspension setup to complement the power it already has.

Yeah.. I wanna say I got the 8 early August of 03? I've seen your plates around UCF, I think.. There were two 8s I kept seeing a lot, can't remember, but you're either the tit grey I saw on campus a lot or the black around Pegasus Pointe around 2 yrs ago.

Gbomb:
My car isn't modded heavily at all, either. Just TXS midpipe and catback, performance wise. Then there's the short throw. I'm not big on modding this car, there's not much to be gained with bolt ons and such. Modding this car is more about personal customization than it is about getting nice gains.

I'm happy with my exhaust system cause it sounds nice and is different. It'd be nice if it gave me 30hp too, but I've learned nearly 4 years ago that this car wouldn't serve that purpose. I'm really contemplating the RB racing flash cause it's a quick, cheap procedure that, when coupled with my exhaust, should free up some extra power. Even then, we're talking $700 for the pipes + $300 for the flash to get, what? I don't know, the peak power doesn't matter I guess. It's about under the curve, or across the band right? Still, it won't be like other cars where a grand in bolt ons gets you significant gains.

There are certain mod paths I probably won't go to with this car, ground wires, pulleys, flywheel, even intake. All of them when combined, will certainly make a diff, but to me, it's more about being diff and customizing your ride rather than really getting some drastic gains in power. In short, I don't think it's worth it to heavily mod this for performance gains alone. If you're a gearhead and like playing with cars and just like to customize your ride then it's great.

Coming from a Cobra to the 8, do you feel the lack of power is made up for by its handling and weight loss?

Waterford meet? That should be fun, I'd be down.

"Ok You WFL folks. Where will this meet be? Rhawb, Felix, Epi? a few noobs on the big board wanted to meet up. Think we could recreate our first Best Buy meet we did 2 years ago?"
I'm not a noob, sniff. Anyone who got the car during the overrated fiasco isn't. I just don't spend as much time on the board as I used to.

Kidding, RX8honey. I know you didn't mean anything by it

Strong Coming from a cobra, what sold me on the car was the 50/50 weight distribution mainly. I have never driven anything that feels like this. I drove the 350z before this and had my heart set on that. But after driving the 8 I had to have one. To answer your question, yes the weight and handling totally makes up for it. The car feels like i smashed my old cobra together with a gsxr 1000 and added style. Plus I would like to try a few autox events because drag racing is begining to bore the **** out of me. Plus the people in that 'scene' got "stale" to be polite.
I anticipate the meet in WFl and thanks for the input!!
