SC Need help choosing replacement tires??

Can someone please recommend a good replacement tire for my 2005 Rx-8 225/45/18. Tire Rack currently has Bridgestone Potenza RE040 for $125.00. This was the original equipment that is currently on my car. At this price I could replace the tires and align the car for somewhere around $700. Thanks for the help.

SC Replacement tires

Thanks for the info. I live in south carolina and do not go to the track. I am looking for a tire that handles well in mostly hot climates but that does not compromise ride quality

Im running on Yokohama S. drives....I chose these cuz of the rating it recieves from Tire Rack and from the owners...what I looked for is road noise and treadwear...so far I have alsmost 500 miles on them and have no regrets.

re: treadlife....

tires with 'more' or 'longer' treadlife generally compromise ultimate traction. Having tires that last to 40,000 miles won't help if you rear-end, can't get around, t-bone, or roll your car at 20,000 miles because you sacrificed traction for longevity.

Just a thought.

+1. I have had these on my MR2 which is very sensitive in the rain and balance. These T1R's took everything I threw at them. just make sure not to do anything crazy until they're broken in (300-500 miles). I put new T1R's in the rear of my 2 and the next day I changed lanes on the highway and went spinning around in circles.... actually the reason I have this 8 now

I've got about 350 miles now on my T1R's and they're gripping like crazy. They stuck like glue this morning on a tight "S' curve .

I put on a set of Falken FK452's (245-40-18) about 19,000 miles ago. They still have a lot of tread left and ride very smooth for that many miles and a couple of auto-x events. Got them at Tire Kingdom. Very satisfied.
