You know guys-- I think Charlie may be on to something after all with the hks ignition amp. After looking at things and speaking with some others--there may be a slight advantage with this system. It charges the leading AND trailing plugs and with the ? possible coil issues there may be a benefit--if nothing else maybe it will make the coil packs last longer and smoother delivery at more than just idle.

He is smart. But, he didn't have that on his car at the last dyno.

I'm a walking advertisement for the HKS unit. It's my FD that's on his wall that made 8 rwhp and 19 ft/lbs almost across the rev range. It was an increase that was pretty constant pretty much through red line. Now granted, Charlie's had more time to tinker with it on NA cars, but on the 2nd gen's he's done it, there was about 2 to 3 rwhp increase. 2 to 3 on the 8 would be a good increase considering the RB intake only added 3 or 4. If the car IS running rich, if everything else was static, then this would help burn the mixture and make it run a bit leaner, but still should be on the safe side considering how rich they have the maps on the 8. Since it's in WOT on the dyno it should be reading off the map and not trying to get the O2 feedback (if the ecu is similar in design as the FD's). It will be interesting to see how it works out on Charlie's car.

Tim

I got a PM from Super, he said he would be our track photographer at this event! That's really good news since I'm going to be on the track.

Yes, there are several hotels around Braselton. You can find them from the RoadAtlanta.com web site. When it get's closer, in a couple weeks, we'll starting talking about it and find one. Depending on if it's just you or both of you, we usually split rooms to make it cheaper.

damn, quicker response! So I am used to running at Road America, which has 2 high speed straighter and some very heavy braking zones. What should be looking for at Road Atlanta?

yeah, what he said. At Road Atlanta, from the perspective of someone who has done one weekend there, it requires concentration, repetition and smoothness. There are blind turns, over rises, and you really have to be able to landmark to find the right line. Because you can't see where you need to end up, at the time that you need to be setting up to get there. as mentioned by OD, the section between turn 2 and 6 is a lot of fun, the esses. There is a long straight along the back of the course between turn 7 and turn 10a. Some of the guys in our group see over 125 in the 8. I did not, my brakes were getting a little warm in the braking zone for turn 10a. This kept the speed on the back in check. Then there is turn 12, we will just let you experience that if you make it down here. There is nothing like it. Then there is a decent straight from turn 12 to turn 1. Easily see over 100 there. Hope you can make it, you would not regret it, RoadAtlanta is a blast to drive.

This would be my first NASA event, normally I run in novice with the Fbody club here in WI. I guess that would be the entry level DE, but from what they have told me I am fast enought to move up one level. So whatever that tranlates into for NASA?

If you have done a few track events, and can handle yourself, then you can probably register for HPDE 2.

I ran twice with the Fbody club last year, did the Shelby event at the same track, and I ran at a local track down in IL.

It is really best to start in HPDE1. You should let the instructors make run group determinations based on observation of skills. Sorry to pipe in but that really is the answer. If you demonstrate the skills for HPDE2, they'll move you into it. My first NASA event I was in HPDE1 on day 1 and moved to HPDE2 on day 2. Driving in HPDE1 was great fun. I passed everyone so they bumped me forward. Play by the rules. It is dangerous when the wrong person gets into the wrong group. I am not saying anything about Blues abilities but no one can know until they ride and obseve his driving.
Thats all folks

ahh, the voice of reason. Listen to TA, his head is on tight today, and mine is not, keep thinking about hitting the track. I know once I get out of work I will settle down a little.

that was kind of along the lines I was thinking too. Much easier to start slow and get fast then just get dumped into a more advanced group than I want.

Even in hpde 1 you can go as fast as you can safely drive. It's a new track, you will be a ways from home and I would reason you do not want to drive every lap 10/10. There is not a lot of differance in hp1 and 2 except in 2 more experienced drivers (usually in faster cars) are on the track with you. Course you are working on more advanced skills.
Heck the last track event I asked to be place BACK in hpde 1 because that was where all my buds where and it was more fun driving with them ,than out there by myself. Also after getting checked off you would be able to drive solo if you want. Also a lot of instructors will take you on the track with them during their runs.
Most dont advise this but during my last track event I let my instructor drive my car (i was in it). He races rotary's and I felt comfortable with this. He helped me understand the limits of my car. Before when I was drivng thinking I was doing 8/10 or 9/10laps, after experiencing my car with him I found I was only driving maybe at best 7/10. I was no where near the edge. He also said he now understood why I was driving the way I was and gave me some invaluable info on what my car needed to prep it better for track days. Its one of the best track events I have ever been too.
Oh yea Road Atlanta turn 12 will make you drop your jaw! But by Sunday you will love it.
It has it all flat turns, 110 degree turns, banked turns , esses with elavation changes, long straights, hard braking zones, blind hills(but at relativly slow speeds) but surprisingly not bad on tires. Are you bring r compunds?

Hummm! I seem to remember last year we had 13 and decided either we were going to have to recruit someone or someone was going to have to go! Maybe I shouldn't include Super on the list until we get another driver. Where's PAM!

I'm still trying to get the days off! If I make it though, I'll be in group 1. I want to be able to pass at least one car!!! (not that passing or being passed is important or any thing like that)
