CMP was my first NASA event, and I had a blast.

STF - If I am not mistaken you were my boss' instructor in the big ol' Infiniti. He has a blast and really appreciated you letting him ride along. Sucks about your car.

This was the first time I have driven my 8 like it needs to be, other than some intense dragon runs. I was very pleased. I have been on the fence on whether to trade it for an E46 330i, but there is no way it will compare. I am very pleased with the 8.

It was flogged, too. I ran it in 1A, my coworker ran it in 1B, and our instructor took it out 3 times 'demonstrating'. I think that worked out to almost 300 miles on the track. And 8mpg. 95 miles on the tank and it starts sucking air.

Im glad I had the foresight to put new pads on it.

I really like CMP. If I dont have to travel to TX in July, I will be back. Then hopefully to RoadAtlanta in August.

Did any of you guys run premix? I notice the TT rules bar additives. I wonder if premix counts as an additive.

yep, the 8 is a blast on the track. glad you had fun. next time you are at an event we are at, you should come say hello, and you are welcome to paddock with us.

All weekend I meant to go say hello to the silver 8 owner, and every time I tried, it was on track. now I know why. I have a bunch of pictures of your car on track, after all it is an 8

most of us have found that pre-mix is not such a good thing for the 8. it tends to clog up the fuel filter and causes starvation. all of us have shelved our pre-mix.

Hope to meet you at the next event.

Hey Waldo,
Glad you posted in here. I walked by where you were paddocked a couple times on Sat in the rain, but didn't see you. Then was kinda busy on Sun.
There is usually a thread in here about all the SE events.
Check out the Roebling Road one and try to make it down. Lots of folks coming.

If not, hope to see you at the next event you come to.

Thanks for the heads up on premix. I will remained armed with at least 2 quarts of 5w20.

Unfortunately I will pass on Roebling, I believe. I gotta move wifey into this gently.

I also meant to seek out some 8 owners but didnt get to it. I am going to get some more appropriate numerals, though. The painters tape was a little too budget for my taste.

Hopefully sometime next year I will be in DE3. I drove solo on Sunday, and that was fantastic. But again, a little at a time for wifey's sake.

recent news has us all moving to 10w-40 during cooler months, and 20w-50 during the hot months.

we will keep an eye out for you, and would love to have you join us in DE3, that is where most of us are now.

I see that now. Again, thanks for the heads up. It is now apparent I have been doing more work on my E30 than 8 in the past year, or else I would have picked that up.

Too bad I just got the dealer to change the oil yesterday; they still put in 5w20.

I'm Baack..

Hi Y'all sorry I have not been much of a poster over the last few months. I have switched jobs / went back to being a contractor and the adjustment to a new role combined with the usual family stuff has been eating up all my free time / energy.

Any who, CMP was BLAST!

TA: I don't think I have EVER laughed this hard while riding in a car. One of the corner workers actually came to see me after a session "To meet the guy who was laughing so hard" It was really cool to see you throw it into massive oversteer (That's right, massive oversteer in a FWD family car, this was actually a well balanced machine considering its lot in life) then staying in it and powering on the other side of the apex. In the dry we actually got a point by from Nevis in his GTI...
STF: Great to finally meet you, too bad about the car, I hope you can get it fixed so we can play again
L8: great to see you again, I hope you get that rotary humming again with new coils / whatever else it needs
OnRails: I want to see the VIdeo of my agricultural excursion
Dano: Great to see you climbing the speed ladder

I used to not really like the track layout much, what with the back side autocross which meant garanteed mid weekend brake job for yours truly but now its FIXED.

I love matting the go pedal down around the apex of 12 and keeping it there while balancing the car all the way down to 14, what can i say, I'm a sucker for sweepers. That part of the track to me went from tolerating to loving it.

I had a perfectly fine time on saturday even if it was soggy and my cheap / old / hard street tires had the adherence of Teflon on wet ice.. It was great fun experiencing the full gammut of (Inner monologue):

1) OH Sh$$$T I need more ABS else I'll blow this corner again
2) Whoops, big understeer, I guess earlier braking was in order after all
3) Well, might as well boot it now, else I'll never get around this corner
4) Geez it's fun to power slide and hang it out there for a while
5) THIS is what they mean by hydroplaning..
6) Sorry Dude, hope you did not eat too much sand
7) Repeat Steps 1-5 (Try to avoid 6) for next corner

See Y'all at Roebling.

By Request! Here is a short video from Sunday morning following TA2. This was the first session of the day and things were still a little slippery in places.

Right-Click and download to enjoy!

haha, that was a subject of conversation in our next classroom session on Sunday. I guess horses prefer open fields of grass.

Lol.
I watched it from the paddock with STF I believe. It went something like -
"Hey there is TA2......Hey, whooops!!......Dude, do you think he is gonna slide all the way down the embankment........"
