I know you guys had a blast. Can't wait for the reports, photos and vids.

Edit:
Just talked with TrackAddict... sounds like you guys had a blast. I'll not give any details away but I will say, I truly wish I could have been there. See you guys at Roebling.

a-boooooo-shaaaarrrrr...

That is all.

Sorry for the self-centeredness -- More importantly ..

TA -- Did great as always, his boo was the hotness in the rain, but out of the rain, it wasn't so hot.

TA2 -- Also did well, had a great time chasing him in the rain, car is well sorted, but as with all stangs, not rain 'certified'.

OnRails --- FAST!

Dbright007 -- great, seemed to really enjoy himself. I have never seen someone so giddy .

Trav -- Awesome, but don't leave him with any spare time, wow, he paints anythign that doesn't move. I was hesistant to leave my stuff there over night .

Overall, it was a great (but wet at times) time for all. It was great to reconnect with all, and I did sincerely have fun, even today while listening to all about how 'great' the track was (turnign the blade in my chest).

To all, thanks for the help, assistance, and support.

STF -- Cliffnotes:

Edited for for less emotion.

Played in sand, played in drizzle, played in rain, played in torental downfall. Had a great time drifting and sliding the big 79 Fairmont around the track. I actually got a thumbs up for drifting from the apex of 12 through 13 all the way to corner 14 ( at @45 degrees of slip angle). Unfortunately, someone gave my car the 'door mod' which works great on fighter jets (front swept wing), but not so good on race cars. Therefore, i was unable to asses the true level of terdness my car possessed. It seemed to be willing in spirit, but like the labido of an 65 year-old the body wasn't able.

Oh, and the really good news, the body guy I know came by and said the chassis is totalled from my door mod, based on the angle of the door, and the position of the door bar and the amount the car is 'worth'. The hits just keep coming.

. So, I called my cousin who is building a mustang, and told him to come get it. I don't even want to see, hear, touch, notice it, much less mess with selling it. He is going to pillage what he needs from this heap, and then they are going to scrap it. I will NEVER do this again. I should have gotten another 'proven' car, rather than going this cheap route. Now, I am out a car, AND 7k. Lesson learned.

For now, I am done. I am going to troll for a while, and keep up with the happenings, but no more toys. I have one lead, which if it pans out, I will pursue, but otherwise, I am hanging up the helmet.

Here are the pics for those who wanted to see it.

WTF, I'm a little confused... did you have an excursion on the track or was this before you came to the track?

Dang Sorry to hear that Bro. Really.
You may be down but you aint out--it is in your blood--same as mine. Took me about 20 yrs to get back to having real fun.
I never drive on track in the rain. I tried it once and decided it was not worth it.
Again sorry man--- lets see you have a great donor car for a factory five?

More to come later - just got in a little while ago.
Another really fun weekend, even if Sat was basically a wet, soggy, hydroplane fest. It really does teach you a helluva lot though.

TA, L8, OnRails, TA2 - Always a hoot. I will be posting stories and thanks ASAP.

STF - Dude - I didn't realize it was gonna be totaled! I thought you were talking about a dent! I tend to get a little self-absorbed at times at the track, but that went right over my head.
I really did enjoy meeting/talking to you so keep on that other lead you have. Be great to have you around more often. Sounded like you liked that option better anyway.

Well, it isn't 'official, but right now, it doesn't look good. Now that I have calmed down, I spoke to the guy again, and he said he woudl now for sure when he gets the door off. Then, we can access the mounts, and determine the 'true' damage.

I will be back, you guys know me better than that

STF, I'm so sorry to hear of your misfortune. I understand how you feel and I hope to see you out on the track again. Amazingly, it doesn't really look that bad!

Well it was another half-wet weekend but I had a lot of fun!

Saturday in the wet was interesting. It was very slick in spots especially on the new pavement. It was really an exercise in finding the lines with the most traction. The best lesson I got out of Saturday was how much ABS hurts you when you are trying to stop in a straight line. I really got the message on threshold braking. I only had one off on Saturday coming out of 7 but nearly lost it several times. I think L8 got it on video as he was right behind me. I also got some good video chasing him around the track in the rain. I actually enjoyed the rain sessions at CMP. I wouldn't want the whole weekend to be wet but one day of it is good practice.

Sunday was much better. Still a little slick in the morning for our first session in spots but by the second session it was full speed. On Sunday something clicked for me and I got a really good feel for rotating the car around corners by using weight transfer. It's just a split second thing to get the back end moving before you mash the gas and plant the rear end. It's like learning to whistle. You just keep trying until suddenly it happens and after that you can do it at will. It was a cool feeling.

I'm thinking it is new coils time. I was having a lot of misfires on the last couple of sessions Sunday. I even had a few instances of a loss of power in the upper RPM range. I'd been feeling it for awhile now but not that bad until now.

I've got a lot of good video. I'll post some up tonight.

TA - Rocking it in the bu! You looked like you were having a blast in it. You were definitely the talk of the town.

TA2 - Good to see you again. It was nice to see that you didn't have to swap brakes this time. Hope you've got it figured out for good. I need to hit you up for some pricing on the Carbotechs.

Dano - Thanks for setting up the room and sharing the cost. Great fun as always. Sounds like you did a great job on track. Now you just need some solo time.

L8 - Got some flame shots for you. It was fun chasing you around the track. Hope you got some good video. I want to see the one of the BMW going straight off in 8.

STF - Glad to finally meet you. Sorry about the car man. I didn't realize the damage was that bad. I know it was really disappointing not to be able to drive on Sunday. You shouldn't beat yourself up though. It wasn't your fault. You know, maybe it was just a sign that you need another EVO! You've got a lot of knowledge to share and I'd like to see you back out there.

See ya'll at Roebling!

CMP is gaining more ground in my book of fun tracks to run. I had an absolute blast this weekend even though my 8 sat parked at home and I had to make do with lesser machinery.
Dbright - always fun instructing you. On Sat you handled the slip and slide fest amazingly well with numerous moments you were able to reign in and control. On Sunday, you ratcheted up the right foot downward pressure. That Miata really growls when you boot it. I'd like to think we got some brisk laps in this weekend.
L8 - great to get you back on track. Thanks for being my roomie. Funny how each track weekend adds more line liners and funny moments to reminisce over. Can't wait for video.
OnRails - I would have liked a ride with you this weekend. Hopefully next one! You were very quick out there. I would love to see some of your laps when you post video and time your fastest ones.
TA2 - another good time at the track. Looks like the lap times kept dropping.
STF - I was glad to see you finally back on track. Bummer on the car door. I hope you dont hang up your helmet.

All in all, it was a nice weekend

wow, what an interesting, wet weekend. my car smells like wet socks, is full of wet and dry sand, and the insides of the windows have some nasty film on them from all the rain from Saturday.

The weekend was fun. I got to learn how to drive in the rain, while it was a learning experience, now that I have done it, I can say I would rather not do it again. For a lot of reasons. The rain and water that wind up in the car are a PITA. But my street tires made it not so much fun, very little grip, no grip under braking and in general, it just was not as much fun. But, I can say I have done it now. Sunday was much better, a dry line was forming for our first session out and by lunch the track was dry and it was fun. I felt like I was a day behind, since Saturday was a wash, so, not as quick at first, and it took some time to learn the new sections of the track, and to remember how to go fast at CMP.

TA, as always, good company. You make me laugh pretty much all the time. Couple that with Dano on Friday night, and I was sore from the laughter when Saturday rolled around. SEE ROCK CITY FTW! Thanks for the calibration ride on Sunday, that always helps. I enjoyed watching you in the Bu, that was by far one of the most entertaining things I have seen on track. I will have to get the video from my half lap behind you up on the web, it is really funny seeing you go through turn 8 sideways. While it was fun, I am sure you are ready to get back in the 8, and take 1st, and not 2nd.

Dano, as always, good times. The laughs are not hard to come by when you put us all in the same place. You looked like you were having fun out there, and by the time Sunday rolled around, you and Celine were motoring pretty good, I have some good shots of you, both in the rain, and the dry. They will be up eventually.

OnRails. What can I say. Other than, I can't hang anymore. last year, we ran nose to tail, and it was pretty close. Not anymore. You just up and left once you got by, and I was impressed. It was fun to watch the 3 and 4 foot fire ***** fly from the back of your car. I looked back at the video of your spin, it all happened off camera, and all you can see is you sitting in the mud off track as I go by. I am gonna have to get some bigger tires, and some more courage to keep the pace with you. You sure do fly when the track is dry.

TG/TA2. glad you did not have to do a brake job, even though I am sure you were dying to. Have you dried out from your tire change yet? But, I am sure you had fun doing that one too.

STF, sorry you had a wet first day back out in a long time, and even worse your car trouble on Sunday. That really sucks, hope you get it all sorted out soon.

It was fun, it was wet, and now I am ready to go back to Roebling.

Videos and pictures coming soon.

More Video

More Video! Here are two vids from Sunday in the dry. The first is just a few fun laps that I thought were interesting. Some traffic and passing, ect. I think L8 is in this one as well.

The second video has most of my last session on it. This was my best run time wise. A high 1:51+ was my best lap with a couple of 1:52+ and 1:53+ in there. I borrowed a line from TrackAddict for the second vid... "F***ing using it"

EDIT: Moved links to Google Video. Click to watch. You can download from Google if you wish.

Can't wait until thisdownloads. On a slow connection at the hotel Congrats on an awesome lap time. I am sure glad you would class in TTC instead of TTD as I would get beat by you! I know you are fast out there. Keep working it as I think you are very good out there. I hope that the next track event (Roebling) I get a chance to get on track with you and do some lead/follow.

on rails nice vids and you are making my old midpipe proud!! Easy to see you are comfortable on that track. Gret driving man
You may be having some fuel starvation problems instead of coils---replace the pump friend---that was not coils. one starvation starts it only gets worse in time.

I was thinking that too looking back at the video. Right after a hard left-hander. I think I had about a half tank at that point.

The reason I suspected coils is because I do feel the little hesitations when winding it out in the high RPMs. I felt it even as far back as last August down the back straight at Road Atlanta. Rob W was my instructor that weekend and he noticed it as well.

Not all that much $ to switch them both.
