I'd love to Don, but I won't be instructing that weekend. I'm running time trails, so I won't have time to instruct and that, too. I have to keep some free time in case I have to work on my car. If I were instructing, I couldn't do that.

You're certainly welcome to ride with me for a session, if you'd like. We can use the communicator. There's nothing like coming under the bridge and going blind into turn 12 and exiting at ~110. Wow! That'll get your attention!

Rob is coming, too, but I think he might be racing.

SilverEIGHT 06-10-2006 06:41 PM

Awesome! Count me in for another ride in your vette. There's something about strapping into a 5 point harness that really gets the blood running. I do look forward to turn 12 and the entrance to 10A. So you are running Time Trials and Rob is racing. I should be able to get some shots of you guys in my free time. I look forward to seeing you all again.

Heres one you got of me last August while I was chasing a friend of mine in his Z06 in Turn 6 (I think).

SilverEIGHT 06-11-2006 11:13 AM

Yep, that was turn 6 from the TV stand. I love that spot!

TrackAddict 06-11-2006 06:55 PM

I am locked and loaded for this event.

TorqueAholic 06-11-2006 09:43 PM

I am signin' up next week after I work "The Rock" next weekend. Combined with working last year's August RA I will drive this one for free.

BTW, Anybody goin to Rockingham next weekend? I will be there as a corner worker.

L8APEX 06-21-2006 07:03 AM

as noted already, I am working this one. It will be hard to sit it out, but must work to play. Look forward to watching, working, and hanging out.

legokcen 06-21-2006 10:13 AM

I'll more than likely work this.

SilverEIGHT 06-23-2006 03:05 PM

I found out today I'm moving up to HPDE2. So, my son Kevin will be driving my car in HPDE1 and me in 2. This should be fun. I bet my little silver bullet will be gasping for a breath of cool air and the brakes will be fried. Poor baby!

I gave Kevin, NASA RA August for his 20th birthday present.

olddragger 06-23-2006 03:26 PM

Silver--do me a favor. careful with your car dude! back to back runs on RA in Aug(it will really be HOT) will not let your tires, brakes or engine cool any! And it will add up to about 500 miles of hard running in a short period of time.
back to back runs will be a good 40 minutes on the track--train your son about the value of cool down laps--and if you dont have some r compunds it may be a good time to get them now as the 040's and 40 minuets on RA in August will not be fun. The tires will toast. New driver needs good rubber under him also.
May even want to consider changing oil between Saturday and Sunday also,
You do have track pads dont ya? The last time I ran RA (cant remember the month ) my calipers got so hot the paint started blistering off--RA is hard on the brakes.
Talk to Charles man--get advice for this endoro run! You dont have gauges and Im telling you temps CAN be a problem. Want to keep you, your son and that beatiful car around for a LONG time.
Maybe the 1 and 2 sessions will be split.
whoa Boy!
Olddragger

SilverEIGHT 06-23-2006 03:44 PM

OK, Thanks OD. I'm looking into a set of Toyo R-1s, I do have HP Plus pads. I will instruct him on the cool down laps. I will be running a pre-mix of 4 oz. as per Charlie. Wouldn't count on the sessions being split up but I think I will stress to our instructor or instructors that we may need two cool down laps for both of us (anticipate last lap) and maybe wait till the third lap to crank it up. That should help the car out a good bit.

The alternative is to let him drive his 96 Maxima (auto) with 150K+ miles and I really don't think that is a good alternative.

L8APEX 06-23-2006 04:14 PM

when the schedule comes out, pay close attention to it. Usually, well in the past, DE 1 & 2 are not always back to back, and you might have a low occurance of that. But it will happen. And that will be tough on the car. You are a brave man, letting your son drive the 8 on track. I would be stressed out.http://garx8club.com/phpBB/images/smiles/freakout.gif

SilverEIGHT 06-23-2006 04:34 PM

I don't think he will push it that hard and i'm going to let him get some seat time with me before he gets it on the track. (fingers crossed)

Just think what it will mean to him. That's more important to me. When we are sitting back at the resturant, eating our stake and talking about the days events, he will be able to share with me the excitement he had and it will be worth every penny it cost and I'm sure the car will handel it OK. I'm more worried about the way it's going to handel with me driving it because I'm beginning to push it more and more.

I'll take the chance. He want's to get a S2K and doesn't want to wait till he gets it to learn to drive. So, I'll share mine. Wish my dad would have done something like that for me when I was growing up!

TrackAddict 06-23-2006 07:33 PM

Silver - I think that is the most awesome gift you can give Kevin. Wow, If my dad ever did something like that when I was a kid, I'd be a real track ho today.

L8APEX 06-24-2006 07:54 AM

silver, that is very cool of you. I am sure he will enjoy it, I know he enjoyed driving that day at the mountians, and this will be no different.

Bigpinekey 06-24-2006 12:17 PM

Good deal! He'll appreciate it for a long time and will remember it the rest of his life.

I bring my son to the track twice a year and we share my car. I'm his instructor and it works real well.

The first couple of times at the track, I had a hard time making him go fast enough and brake as hard as he should. He's now fast and soloed after the first session at events. He's fast enough on the throttle, but he lacks the confidence to brake really hard, but that's the last talent everyone developes.

It's been fun watching him progress and achieve goals I've set for him. It's even more fun, after the day is over and we're sitting in the paddock, enjoying a couple of adult beverages with other track friends and we're all rehashing the events of the day as though it was Lemans or the Indy 500.

These bonds last a lifetime! :cuddle:

SilverEIGHT 06-24-2006 12:30 PM

Thanks guys! Gives me warm fuzzies! :p:

olddragger 06-24-2006 06:51 PM

Silver--didnt mean to reduce the magnitude of this event with your son-- what you re doing is good--real good. It will be one of those unforgettable times.
When i was talking about cool down laps --i didnt mean at the end of the session--no I mean that while you are on the track if you feel the brakes not stopping as good, the tires not gripping as well--slow the car down for a lap and let the systems recup. I had to do that when I was running the o40's at RA.
Olddragger

SilverEIGHT 06-24-2006 07:20 PM

Thanks OD, I really don't want my foot dissapearing into the floorboard. I will be paying close attention to that. I really do appreciate your valid concerns.

Speaking of brakes... Charlie just put on my stainless brake lines. They seems much firmer now. I think I'm going to hold off for the rest of the year on mods so the coil overs will have to wait till next season. I will be getting a set of tires though. I will just concentrate on the driver for the rest of this year.

OD, are you driving this one?

legokcen 06-25-2006 02:26 PM

BTW Silver, that's one of the coolest gifts you could give your son. If you keep this up, you'll be like John and Jake English going to track days together on weekends and instructing others. You're a hell of a guy, no matter what the other guys in the club say! :)

You just have to help us indoctrinate him into the club like we do all of our other noobs. We should get him a pink t-shirt that says, "Track Virgin" on it. :)

TrackAddict 06-25-2006 08:26 PM

Pink isn't for virgins only. I had a pink wristband and windshield sticker for HPDE3 @ Rockingham. Thought I would share. Besides, it matched the GA RX8 Club tanktop I stole from my daughter.

olddragger 06-25-2006 08:56 PM

Hey Silver,
Nope, not driving this one. May ride up though and watch. It's too hot for me in August. I'm waiting til later in the year. More than not I will do the Roebling at the end of September and i really would like to do RA again but I havent looked at the schecule to see if NASA has one. If not I may do another association for RA before 2007. It sure is hard too wait!

Working it........

any interest in saving a little $??? I'll do the camper again if folks are interested......I'm doing the math on gas vs hotel
......

Thoughts?

L8APEX 06-26-2006 02:26 PM

I would definitely pitch in some $$ to help you out on gas if you brought the camper down. It was a lot of fun last year in August with it, and I am sure it would be again. RA in March was fun, but it did not have the same atmosphere as last August. Most people get a room for the weekend anyway, in March I spent about 70 on my room, so did others. And it would save a ton of time in commuting back and forth. I had planned on staying at home, and that would have cost me at least a full tank of gas, if not more.

So I would help out, anyone with me...

I'd love to pitch in. We had a heck of a time last time. ~153 miles from Chattanooga to RoadA. Estimate $3 in gas and 8 mpg for the Titan pulling the camper. That's 38.2 gallons both ways. Let's give it 40 gallons in case Mr. Phlash has a leadfoot. 40 x $3/gal = ~$120 in gas. Am I off base?

I'll be happy to pitch in whatever is needed. Last time was fun as hell. We also have to have the cookouts, those were good fun.

L8APEX 06-27-2006 06:33 AM

Phlash was telling me that he gets 11 MPG pulling the camper trailer. We talked that if there were 6 of us staying, that would be ideal. By my count, those there are:

Phlash
TrackAddict
Legokcen
SilverEight
SilverEIGHT Jr.
L8APEX

that is 6. if it costs him $120 in gas, and we all made it $20 each to pitch in, we would be able to stay at the track, hang out at the grill, have a few cold drinks, and maybe hit a certain unknown skidpad at midnight, I would say $20 is well worth it. Hopefullyy Silver and Silver Jr. are up for it.

SilverEIGHT 06-27-2006 06:44 AM

Me and Jr. will be staying at home. I'm only 15 miles from the track. But I'll throw in $20 for the cause and to park my lard-ass in a lounge chair, drink beer and eat ass smelling BBQ.

You missed out last time you didn't spend the evening there.

L8APEX 07-01-2006 02:39 PM

Awesome,

So how about it Phlash, you gonna bring Chateau Phlash to RA this August?

Phlash 07-06-2006 01:10 PM

Okay, throw in at least $20 ea and Chateau Zoom is in.....For this low, low amount of pocket change, you get two fun filled nights and some great memories. I'll bring some Beer Brats and some BBQ'd ass. I'm not a beer drinker but will have rita mixin's. Let's keep it at six plus I'll hold TA2's spot if he would like to join us. I'll be there mid day Friday and will see if I can get in early to set up. I'll set up in the same spot but may turn around so that we can overlook 10a-b from the porch.

Nope, don't mind at all.

I want to let everyone know, I read on the NASA forum this morning, that HPDE 2 for RA in August, is FULL. If you have not signed up, you need to figure something out, quick. Glad I am working. No worries. I keep telling myself that, one day I will believe it.

olddragger 07-06-2006 03:57 PM

well guess I am too late for this one and I wanted to run RA again this year. Probably would have been too hot anyway.
Yall have fun boys!
OD

L8APEX 07-06-2006 05:54 PM

OD, you might want to check with Julie. I just read in a thread not about the event, that it was full. I can not find anything else on the forum for NASA about it, so that may just be heresay.

SilverEIGHT 07-06-2006 07:14 PM

I signed up for the Skidpad... I mean to work.

Thanks for clarifying that. So you dirver folks sign up, I wanna see 8's out there again. Just not mine. :sadwavey:

SilverEIGHT 07-07-2006 07:11 AM

I asked Julie if Kevin and I could have the same number on the car and have the same instructor since we are both signed up with my car. That should make it eaiser for us and certainly on the instructor to not have to go chase down another car.

L8APEX 07-07-2006 07:16 AM

should not be a problem, since you will both be in different run groups. But let her answer that for sure. If nothing else, an easily applied/removed spare number can solve that problem with ease.

SilverEIGHT 07-07-2006 07:40 AM

She has responded and said it should not be a problem but it is to far off to give me a definate answer. She will be getting back I suspect after CMP is over and organizing gets started more on RA.

Phlash 07-07-2006 08:19 AM

Needless to say, with me bringing the Chateau, I'm working this event......Tower go-for boy....

I'll be on the lookout for big fake ass strakes and doily dresses....
