Thumbs down Mazdaspeed 6 at the MIA Auto Show

Guys:

Like some of you that did go to the auto show this past week or so we were able to appreciate the new Mazdaspeed 6 that they had their.....first of all let me start saying this, I hope mazda is not trying to tap into the EVO/WRX STi market with this vehicle because they are in the wrong direction!!!!!!
I was amazed on how heavy this car is!!!!! the hood alone needed both hands to be able to open safely and the hood stick would bend in such a way if you put you're hand on it that was very unsafe!!!! the car weighs almost 4600lbs and dont tell me that the 280 plus HP are gonna make up for this because is mathematically impossible, this is a vehcile gross weight of almost you;re average SUV or midsize truck.....Now on the other hand the car is very nice looking and tons of space inside and very well finished like our RX8's!!! perhaps this car should be considered a Sport Touring car instead of a full out sports sedan.
If you are thinking of geting this car and possibly using it for AutoX or other racing activities you better put this baby on a serious weight diet. Overall the idea is great and I hope they do well with it but defenetly not on my shopping list for when my lease on my 8 is done.

My 2 cents.

They are not trying to get at the WRX and EVO market. They've gone on record to say they are going after the mature owner--think Subaru Legacy GT as its most direct competitor. Or what a new family man would get after he deemed his WRX too unrefined for family life.

I thought it was 3400 pounds. 4600 is unlikely.

DING DING DING excelent!

the weight listed inside of a door on a car is GROSS weight (the curb weight of the vehicle + the max ammount of payload (passengers/luggage, ect)) The mazdaspeed6 is not very far off the weight of an evo or sti, but your right, they are not going after those cars. Its more like you said, a sports touring car.

I think the MS6 appeals to the same people that buy some of the lower lvl audi's, volvo R's ect.... AWD sedans, very useful but still fun to drive and have good power.

270hp/280tq is pretty much the same as the evo and is about the same weight, AWD cars are always heavy.

I think its a great car and cant wait to drive one.

3400lbs? are you sure? I thought it was more like 3600.

4500 LB GROSS wheight!!! I thought I said that on my earlier post. I know AWD car are hevay by nature cuz' I had one my self (2002 WRX)

But yes the car looks great and I cant wait to drive one so I can really make up my mind.....Audi Quattro and Volvo AWD market is more likely for this car.
I like what someone said that it is the car for that family man who sold its WRX or EVO cuz' is not up to the family life style.

Now did any one lifted the hood???? god it was heavy....I never liked those carbon fiber hoods but it should be a first on the aftermarket shopping list for this car.
Lets see how it handles and drives to better judge the car.

Thanks for correcting me!!!! I forgot to mention it was GROSS WEIGHT I got the info from the sticker on the door seam.....but still a little on the heavy side and thats why I said that I hope they are not trying to tap into the EVO/WRX STi market. More like a mature Audi or Volvo S60R market.

If you knew it was 'gross' you wouldn't have used 'and the car weighs' - you would have typed "and at max load, the car can weigh up to'.

I test drove the Mazdaspeed6 last night. I wasn't very impressed. The power of the car seemed to be between a stock wrx and a stock sti. Which it should be. The car is pretty big. I was looking at trading in my MS miata, but I certainly will not be doing that now. I love my mazdas, but if I were going for the awd platform, for the price, I would get an sti. Sorry mazda, nice try...
