Cool May 22 HPDE @ Sebring

All the info can be found here:
http://www.performance-drivers-club.com/

Registration is now open for this event. It is not as cheap as an Auto X, but bang for the buck... it can't be beat.

There are some issues I should address..
1.) You must have a NASA Pro Racing Membership
This Membership is only $35 per year and gives you a subscription to
Grassroots Racing Magazine (it's worth it just for the subscription)

2.) Anyone not having an SCCA/NASA/Other Race/Solo license is required to take the class/instructor

3.) There are few Instructors and only one student per instructor. Therefore the time is of the essence in order to save a position for yourselves.

Yes they are allowed, you only need goggles if you drive an open cockpit car such as a D or C Sport Racer, S2000 or SRF.

Alex:

We haven't met yet, but I have a 2004 Silver 8. Barbara Nix just begged me to instruct at Sebring so look me up. What run group are you in?

Do we have any other 8's coming to that event. You can email me privately if you like at: jayg@printwithbudget.com.

All I can tell you is that it's tough running in the top group with NASA with the 8. It just lacks power. I have a stage 2 CZ on order and god only knows when I will get it. It seems that everything I order is back ordered. What are you using for brake pads. Porterfield in CA has the proper backing plates, but there is a problem with the rear pad thickness. I hope to have that fixed by end of today. I used at Moroso their R4 compound.

Look forward to hearing from you and anyone else going to Sebring.

Jay, you can instruct me no prob!

but at homestead :D

I am using the stock pads as I am waiting for Hawk to finally release the new ones. As far as brakes go, I have changed the fluid to Motul and that's about it. Also I have changed the alignment, front and rear Tanabe Sway bars and my new tires and wheels are arriving Friday. I will be running 245/45/17 up front and 275/40/17 rear Kumho MX tires. (I was running B-stock but refuse to buy hoosiers to compete so it's STU for me ) As far as engine, HKS exhaust, Green Filter, RP Racing 21 oil, Red line watter wetter and that's all folks.

Since I'll be running in Group one (technically I havn't been solo'd for NASA), I hope I can manage without the extra power, but with extra grip. :D

BTW: guys, the group 4 guys are running GT2 Porsches, 360 challenge cars, 3/4 midgets, Panoz Racers, Viper GTRs, etc...

THAT'S why he is underpowered

Sorry Alex, I can't go to Homestead. If you call Porterfield in Calif. he will make you pads with Hawk compounds. I hopefully can get the rear pad thickness settled by the end of today. Torque is what is killing us all. I used to run a 97 M3 in BMWCCA club racing and POC racing. At Moroso at the end of the main straight I was 10+ MPH faster than with the RX8. We need torque and hopefully the stage 2 will help. Running Eibach pro springs and racing beat sway bars. Borla exhaust and K & N intack. Not real happy with the K & N. Next week stainless brake lines go on and the Mazda Speed rear spoiler is already on order.

Sorry I can't help you guys in June, but will be at Moroso in September.

you'll love the MS spoiler.

Hopefully we'll meet at another event. You can always see Yuri, Lou and I at the ER Auto X's

I'll check out Porterfield, but doubtfully before June 12th (but then again :D )

I agree with you on the torque issue, it's one of the reasons I am switching to 17" rims. This change will remove 30lbs+ of unsprung weight. I effectively tossed out two and a half of me

IMHO Homestead should be good for the RX8 so long as the revs are kept high. It's not as fast as Moroso or Sebring. I have driven Moroso and Homestead with my old S4 and it was great at Moroso, but I kept wishing it wasn't such a cow in the turns at Homestead. I think Homestead will let the car go a little deeper in the turns (especially since Moroso's turn 2 scenario doesn't exist) even with the stock compounds.

Notice I said "will be using"
I'll let you know once the rears come in :D

...that's IF I can install them Friday before I leave on vacation.

I've owned MX's before and love them, you should enjoy using them. Have you done any alignments to the car?
