Wanted to know if any of you in the SE region have gotten any recall notices yet in the mail, and if so, when you got it.

I got the warranty extension letter from Mazda in the mail last week.

no letter in the mail but Carolina Mazda in Rock Hill, SC (hometown) called me saying that there was an open recall on my car and was trying to schedule the appointment.

warranty extension yes, recall notice no, but I have talked to the service department at my local Mazda dealer about it. I will probably be declined, on account of too many mods anyway. Even though the stock cars have the issue too.

I didn't fill anything out. I believe you only had to if they had incorrect information on your 8.

Sept 2006 - RX-8 Voluntary Emission Recall Campaign 4206F

Issue:
Due to PCM software calibration issues, the following conditions may result:

1) The oil injection metering system may be inaccurate causing poor engine sealing of the combustion chambers resulting in drivability or emissions problems.
2) Too much fuel may be injected at engine start up causing carbon to be deposited on the park plugs or plugs may foul, causing difficult starting. In addition the cat converter may be degraded on some vehicles.

What will Mazda do?

Reprogram the PCM. The spark plugs, engine, and cat converter will be inspected and repaired or replaced free of charge. The Mazda rental program covers you for this recall.

ahh, that is the other recall. or am i wrong. I am still waiting on the one about the engine and vacuum testing. It is coming too, just not sure when.

ok there were 2 letter with same info, one for you to read it and throw it away and the second one it was a smaller one that was suppose to be add on your warranty book. if u dont have any of these u should request a copy from the dealer just to avoid any future problems

No, I don't think so...all the stuff you mention was all in the one "warranty extension" package. The extra stuff was also the forms to get reimbursed if you had paid for the items on the extension to be repaired. The above came in a separate envelope (let me clarify, on the same day), again with the forms for reimbursement if needed. I would imagine that if you call up your dealer (just not the asshats here) and give them the campaign recall number, they can take it from there. Mazda may be sending it out in controlled batches as to not overkill the dealership/service dept's. Who knows.......

Please be advised:
The old phrase, "don't fix something that is not broken" applies!

If you have received the warranty extension and the recall letter, you may want to consider the following.

If you have a Mazda dealer perform the recall inspections and they do not find any issues other then the PCM recalibration and you have engine issues later, the recall may not apply to your car. If you do not have more then 25,000 miles on your car, you should potentially wait until there is an issue with your engine.

Please be advised to inform any dealer that does service work on your car to NOT PERFORM these recall inspections until you authorize the tests to be performed. This may enhance your position later if you have engine failure issues under the warranty.

Please inform as many RX-8 owners as you can to consider this!

No, you're wrong. It's the same (only) recall that's less than a year old. Recall 4206F is 4206F. Here's the pdf's of 5 MNAO letters thankfully submitted by zoom44...

The middle one, the owner's letter, reads like the one that Phlash got. The others are valuable to you too, in that they can help you get what you are entitled to (full tank of gas, car wash, loaner car / CX-7 ), and other things you might want to know.

Rodlucci, if you don't do the recall, you don't get the re-flash. I think the reflash fixes two problems that is causing the engine failures:

1) OMP (oil metering pump) oil delivery starvation of some sort, causing engine seal failures. (For those who don't know, that's the thing that injects a very small amount of engine oil into the rotary chambers to lubricate things in there that can't get lubrication any other way, such as the apex seals.)

2) Too much fuel @ start-up, causing overheating / killing of the cat.

So, if you don't do the recall now, you don't get the re-flash fixes now. I'm not sure if that's a good thing.

Alright so just like I had suspected...no one (or barely anyone) in this region has received the recall letter yet. They are still coming...they're just starting on the west.

By the way:

I am pretty sure that under this recall campaign, the NEXT time you take your car in for service, when they pull up your car's records in the system and notice that your call falls under mandatory recall inspection, they are obligated by Mazda to conduct the recall procedure on your RX-8. As far as I know, the only way for you to "hold out" on getting the recall is to not take your car in for service at all. Also, we all need this new flash anyway to get rid of the low RPM driving/not enough oil problem.

I received the warranty extension but no recall yet. After the recall, will I get 30 mpg?? Hope all my RX8 buds from GA and TN are doing fine. -Howard

that is the cost for checking a CEL code. it takes about 30 seconds... if you only have one arm. oh well, I know what the code is, not worrying about it.

taking mine in Monday--I wonder if I should change my oil to a 5w/20--already ran out the pre mix gas. Believe it or not I can tell a differance. Oh well what will be will be--changing the oil now is not going to do anything.
