I was exiting I-75 onto Miramar Pkwy east when I see this black Cobalt SS infront of me......he had a truck infront of him so we took the curve at 25 MPH but once the truck got out of the way we hit it (this is in a slight uphill) and he started to pull away from me in the straightaway......god these RX8's need torque BAAAAD!!!! I did some research on the Cobalt and it has only 205 HP but the GM site does not say anything on the torque and mostliekly is higher than the HP and probably at a low RPM. I know if we had kept going at it I would eventually pass him but their are lots of cops in Miramar and the light had changed to red.

Fastest time I've seen for a cobalt SS is 14.4 @ 99. Close enough for a drivers race at the drag strip, but on the street from a roll that +4 mph trap speed means a stock rx8 will be hard pressed to keep up.

He also might've had some GM performance upgrades installed. Like mopar, GM is selling upgrades at dealerships. GM stage one gets it up to 220hp, and stage 2 is supposed to be about 20% over that.

Sorry to hear that, but unless you were in 2nd at the time you got on it and beeped it going into 3rd, he would pull away from you. I had one do a similar thing to me and we were dead even and that is what I did. He seemed disappointed that he did not pull me, but I usuallly tend to keep the RPMs about mid range when I forsee a situation like that so I don't get screwed.

If you were anywhere below 25 mph, even in 2nd gear, I can understand. I was behind one of my friends getting on the interstate. He was driving his '04 Chevy Silverado Z71. He slowed down to about 18 mph, just messin with me, and then floors it. I was right on his bumper, and immediately floored it right after him. There was just no way I could keep him from pulling on me when I was under 3K RPMs. He must have pulled at least 5 more car lengths before I started closing the gap. I kept in second gear until it beeped, and same with third gear. I finally caught up with him and passed him at about 80 or so MPH. Didnt really bother me, cuz I know I'm not ever gonna be starting at 2500 RPM when I'm tryin to go fast.

unless you were around 5-6k rpm and floored it around the same time as him, you wouldn't have much of a chance. The rotary needs the high rpm - otherwise you're basically driving around with 80 hp under the hood.

Yeah you probably spanked a Cobalt SS but not the Supercharged model....they look the same with body kit and everything but one has the blower on it.

Maybe it had the Stage 1 or 2 on it. All I know is that I could not catch up to him.

I cant remember in what gear I was when I floored it but it probably was 2nd on very low RPM cuz we were doing 20 MPH before it all started...
Ohh well things happen.

I whish that for 07 or at least 08 we get a supercharged RX8 or something cuz let me tell you this car is falling behind the eight ball on power......it will never dissapoint me on handling tho!
