My dealer says mine is "on the water". I called him to ammend my order to include the spoiler. He said he'll try, because it's "on the water". No guarantee. Hopefully with the car still 2-3 weeks out of port should give sufficient time for the port to get the update. If not, then I'll just have to have the body shop add it later.

I'm the other Fort Walton Beach owner. I was the only FWB owner for 15 days. I was at the dealership today to watch B Nez get his new, shiny Red 8!
Congratulations -- and we want a review and pictures!

Picked mine up Wednesday 7/23/2003
Funny thing that with all of the delays, including the one for those of us with the Appearence Package, my front spoiler was damaged when it was loaded/unloaded from the truck. It scraped on the loading ramp. All that they would have done is to tape a small amount of cardboard and all would have been fine.
I have not had even one close call with the spoiler while driving.
The dealer has been real good about the situation. They wrote it up as damaged in transit. They are working to get me a new spoiler, as it has now become slightly un-stuck from the car near the damage. The doublestick tape will not re-attach.
I love the car, the auto is a bit slow off the line, but tons of power from 15-20 mph on up to 100+. The paddle shifters are ultra cool and functional. The shifting is extreemly quick.

Yes, it's true, I did finally take delivery of my RX-8 yesterday! I really did not know it would be there so soon. I had decided that it was a good time to extend my Pre-approved loan with my credit union. Immediately after, I called my dealer just to see if he had any updates. I was pretty shocked when he said my car was undergoing PDI. So, the car:
The first half hour was stressful - I had to drive it out of the showroom, through the doors, and through all of the parked Proteges. Next, it was through rush hour traffic to get onto the base and get my base registration. Add to this my disorientation in the car and with the 6 short gears...It was another hour before I got it back on the road to drive home. After 15 - 20 minutes, my comfort level raised dramatically, and was able to finally enjoy the car! I LOVE it! :D :D
3rd gear was a bit tricky at first, as you really have to consciously go diagonally from 2nd to 3rd. I got hung up in the gate a few times, but once I got used to the diagonal throw it was very quick. Also, going from 5th to 6th, you have to maintain rightward pressure to avoid shifting to 4th rather than 6th. I attribute my initial awkwardness with these to the loose, sloppy shifter in my Nissan. It took no time at all to become accustomed to the gearbox, and now it feels perfect. Great pulls up to 5500 rpm, even with the A/C on. I love the seats - found them to be extremely comfortable for the 45-minute drive home.
That's about all I'm willing to commit to for a review until I get some more seat time under my belt. I did already manage to leave a small black mark on the red leather in the rear seat with my son's booster seat. For those of you with child seats - USE A TOWEL!! Or one of those mats - something to keep the bottom of the child seat from indenting and scuffing the leather. Speaking of the red leather - I do love it, and I don't think it looks tacky or over the top. My boys' booster seats store beautifully in the trunk, as well. The backs detach and stack in the trunk up against the v-brace area, and the seat bottoms fit side-by-side like a glove into the indentation in the trunk. Almost takes up no boot-space at all.
All in all, it's perfect so far, and am looking forward to driving it again this morning! I rearranged my garage last night to get the car in there (still just moving in) - I just couldn't bear to leave it outside all night.
RX8-U-Up, I had no idea you came out there for my car - I thought it was just coincidence until my wife told me. I would not have minded at all if you had beat me to posting a pic - I didn't actually take very many, as there was always people lurking around the car! Plus, I decided to not post any pictures until AFTER my Zaino sessions. It was nice to meet you finally! Now I just need to find the time to install the mp3-player!

Hi B-Nez,
Again, congratulations on finally getting the car!
The guys at Quality had called to let me know the cars were in -- and I had wanted to look at one with the appearance package. They already had your car on the showroom floor and it looked fabulous.
I had just gotten back from the parts department. We gave them a long list of RX-8 accessories to order. I provided them with the prices from several Mazda dealers that sell on-line, and they are probably going to match the prices. I am waiting to hear from them today. The parts guy said that they do honor price challanges.
Yea, I heard you were in finance, and I was blocked in by a woman taking a test drive, so I was hoping to meet your family before having to take off.
We are looking forward to seeing the picutures of your car. Maybe we can get the two cars in a picture together!
Have fun and happy driving!
And by the way, for all of the NW Floridians, there are two unsold 8s in FWB, one yellow and one silver. Both have appearance packages. I think the yellow has cloth interior, the silver has the black/red leather.

Hi B-Nez,
I meant to ask about the mileage on the car when you picked it up. The yellow car is now on the showroom floor and has 14 miles on it, but I have heard that the silver car has over 200 miles on it. It seems that most people don't like the Black/Red combo interior on the Silver.
Ours had 2.8 miles on it when we picked it up in Pensacola. They even let Chuck take the credit card info to the service station so he could gas it up before we took off. They wanted to make sure absolutely no one drove the car before we had the chance.
Chuck washed and waxed "Blue" yesterday after work, and it looks so awesome. I can't wait to see your Red car washed and polished!

I completely forgot to look at the odometer when I got it - so much else on my mind. Not a big deal, though, because it's not like I would have refused the car if it had over 5 or whatever. Actually, I ended up not even driving the car before buying! I can be so cooky sometimes! Fortunately I love it, and would do it all over again. I now have 200 miles or so on it, and I've had it up to 6K a couple of times - great fun. I did do one run tonight up to 8K, and the fun just increases exponentially. I allowed myself that one-time indulgence during my "break-in". No more 7K+ until after 600 miles and the oil change.
I installed my mp3 player tonight. Wow, what a pain. The whole job took 2 hours:
Audio unit removal: 1 hr, 30 min.
CD/MP3 unit swap: 15 min.
Audio unit re-installation: 15 min.
Granted, I really took my time to be sure I did everything correctly and caused no damage. I'll post my complete experience on the mp3 installer thread.

Good Duck drove up from Orlando last weekend to visit his folks, and we got together briefly at Olive Garden. We managed to snap a few photos, and here's a pretty good one:

Thanks, B-Nez for posting the pic. It was great talking to another RX-8 owner and a fellow forum member. Also, thanks for giving me some much needed hints on the MP3 installation. Here's a pic that I like. I would have posted more but I got home and got lazy.
Separated at birth? The RX8s that is. :D
