Which dealer in the area?

Hello to everyone:

I moved here to retire in 2013 from Kansas.

I've owned my 04 gt mt since 2009. Never had any serious issues with the car (coils, plugs and wires replaced when I bought it at 35k, intake manifold replaced in 2010 all under warranty) car now has 78k. Recently car became hard to start cold. Figured it was time for new ignition parts again, so ordered them from mazmart had them installed by a local shop. Car runs fine now until it warms up then, loss of power, strange exhaust note, won't idle and dies and hard to start warm. From what I'm reading on the forum here first thing I need now is probably a compression test as there is no reason to throw good money after bad if the engine is bad.

I live in Navarre btw. Does anyone have a recommendation of the authorized dealers in the area I should contact about the compression test?

The only one around here is the dealer. I would take it to FWB if I had to pick. I have never used either since I do my own work.

If you got it taken care of them nevermind, I was going to say you can test it with a regular compression tester not super accurate but still better option and cheaper. If you're engine is fucked you'll know it just by using the regular tester. I'm thinking of testing my just for the hell of it and would like to test anoth 8 just for comparison.

Hey fellow RX8 owners on the emerald coast. I see it's been quite a while since there was any activity on this thread, I need some advice from some local RX8 people about what to do with my 04 gt mt. I replaced the engine at 78k in 2015 and now I'm being told by the dealer that due to low compression, the second engine which has only 28k on it, needs to be replaced again. I'm not sure just what to do with this car.

Did the dealer run a compression test on it? If so if the numbers are bad the it will need a replacement or a rebuilt there’s a few guys in the area that can rebuild it for you for a lot less than what the dealer will charge you. Let me know if you need any assistance with anything also if they didn’t run a compression test I know someone who can, was the second engine you placed in it used? If so probably had more miles on it than what they said.

Hit me up and we can set up a time to come on over and run the compression test. That will at least rule out that as a possibility if nothing else.

Thanks for the replies. This was a remanufactured engine, purchased from Mazda and installed by a local shop here in Navarre, a different shop than I'm using now. I sure do appreciate the offer of the compression test Surf, but I had one done already at Mazda of Ft. Walton this week. The numbers went like this: Rotor 1 6.3, 6.2, 6.1 Rotor 2 5.8, 5.5, 5.6. They mentioned the minimum pass spec as 6.4. I would be interested in hearing the sound your 8 makes with a stock exhaust and a gutted cat.

Yeah, those numbers are low for sure. Sounds like it's rebuild time
