Confused about which exhaust

Jason,

After looking at your site I'm now more confused than ever about which exhaust to get. I'd like a noticable power gain but without any drone while cruising. It's hard to really tell how loud a system will be by all the sounds clips and videos. Also, I have the CZ Stage 1 ordered. I don't know if that matters which exhaust I get (I'm guessing not).

What are your recommendations?

PS... to the forum "Police".. I've used the Search feature many times before posting this!! :D

I guess in that way I'm luck to not own an 8 yet... I have no idea either. I do have to admit that I like Borla... they make only exhaust so they are good at it and Mustang and Ford magazines have said good things about them. Magnaflo are supposed to be good and the RX-8 Store systems looks good. I suppose B&B is good too, but I know nothing about them. Greddy is quality, but the tips are too big for me. HKS is too expensive and too flashy.... makes me THINK that there will be less performance. JIC... probably good... looks like a lot JDM. Racing Beat? Have they even released theirs yet? Did I miss any major ones?

Others... well JDM cans... RE Amemiya... no way in hell. That ugly *** "dolphin tail" tips on their cans ae a no no... looks like grandma's Buick. AutoExe... looks good and I hear good things int he JDM about them. I wish they had dynos of the cans up on their site though. They are pricey like all JDM stuff.

I have run across two systems recently that have caught my eye... both JDM. the first by Leg Motorsports is called the "Sequential Muffler System." It consists of a 4 outlet (not just tips) system. It is tuned to run only 2 at low rpm and to opena valve running all 4 at mid to high rpm... thus increasing low end torque. Handmade and estimate price (as sale has not begun yet) is 300,000 JPY - 500,000 JPY... a bit too rich for me. The other system by Odula... it looks somewhat like two mini RX-8 Store cans lined up with one in front and one in back... as if someone was trying to make the two cans fit in the same space as Borla. This is supposed to be for weight balance (which is light at 13kg) and the design is supposed to improve torque from 2k-7k rpm. All in all the design is very interesting, but will all the extra bends have a negative performance impact? Cost is 95,000 JPY...

I'd mostly be interested in the under $600 range. I think I am favoring the Borla or RX8store systems.

The only thing that bugs me about the Borla is that it seems to me to have extra bends...why curve around the muffler can to enter, and then half of it has to turn 180 degrees to exit. I don't know...with flow and all, things are not always what they seemed to the untrained eye (and my eye is definitely untrained in this area).

That is my complaint with the borla also. One to many bends in the piping.
I have the RX8store, greddy and hks exhausts in stock. All three are very nice.
