the only significant complaints with the 3rd gen that i always see are electrical EVERYTHING. a buying tip would be for a garaged FD to ensure theres as little water damage in the connectors as possible.
aware of the two oil injectors, theres people who bitch about them but it doesnt cause problems for the ones who care for their engine. i underestimated your knowledge though, my apologies. i thought you were one of those people who spread vicious rumors about RX7's... ugh they have such bad reps. seriously, anyone who isnt interested in learning about their car and how it works should not get an RX7 (or an RX8, they will soon find as the miles pile that their 8 has a lot of the same quirks) because they simply wouldnt get a grasp on the quirky things in care and maintenance it needs. |
so we agree no 3rd gen 7 for the the kid........
|
if i could have afforded a 3rd gen i would have gotten one as my first RX. its a good platform to learn on that doesnt look like it has a flux capacitor (FC) and can go into the past.
depending upon how well his car care skills are and his reluctance to not beat the thing into the ground- i recommend an FD. if the above stated does not apply to this guy- its the worst car you could buy :) i just couldnt let you get away with saying that about FD's earlier lol, they need someone to stand up for them sometimes. |
good luck, dont let anyone here tell you go buy another car.
I suggest you buy one used, this car lost so much value- big mistake :( |
your right the more the years go on the more i only see the newer ones either driven by whoadie-whoadies or teenage girls with a parents bank account. nobody in their right mind should buy these new simply because of the massive off the lot depreciation.
what is the best year to buy for the best price? it seems to be 05' right? |
Dude, if you want a rotary sports car, have $9000, and want to learn something, buy a first gen RX-7 for $2000 and some tools, keep the rest for insurance, fuel, and any upgrades and repairs. The going rate for a decent condition 79-85 RX-7 (SA or FB[vin's], S1-S3[series 1 - 3], depending what you're talking about and who too) is between $1500 - $3000 depending on the engine and trim package. GS is basic, GSL has limited slip differential and 4 wheel disc, GSL-SE (85) has the 13B with fuel injection instead of the carbed 12A. I have an 82 GSL and love it, even after everything I want to do to it, it'll still only have cost me $10, 000 - 11, 000. And it'll be one of a kind.

Back from the dead thread!! Wow, what a difference 2 years makes, when this thread was opened 9k would maybe get you a roller, but now you can find a few higher mileage 04's for that price, won't be in the best shape for that price, but still it will be drivable
