tajabaho1 08-04-2007 01:53 PM

unfortunately.....no I saw a salvaged Rx-8 04 MT around my area the day I got back, and that one sold for 12k, there are some wreaked ones(which is probably moddable, repairable) for around 8-9k around LA, but u still gotta put in more cash in order for it to run..........

Keep saving while investing that money! By the time you have real experience driving ( like when you are in your mid to late 20's) You will have plenty of money to buy what you want. The RX8 is also a very high maintenance which costs a good bit of money along with insurance for a new driver. That is no dig on your driving abilities. I'm sure you are a good driver, however there is a lack of experience on our beloved roads.

But this is all for naught because you are young and you only have a couple things on your mind (CARS AND GIRLS) and you think the car is gonna get you the girls:naughty:
Good luck!!

Get yourself an RX-7. You wanna play with us RX-8 boys with $9000? Sorry, not a chance. Gas bills, oil bills, maintenance, and loans will kill you faster than buying the car will.

Go learn about wrenching and most importantly rotary maintenance. Our cars are fickle cars, and you don't want to blow an apex seal because you had no idea about rotaries and everyone around you think it has a 4 banger.

Man they saw you coming a mile away. I didn't put anything down on my 2005
6spd GT and got it for less than 25K...brand new.

+1....I'm looking forward to picking up a camden supercharged 1989 Rx7 from one of my friends in Jan. I'm still kicking myself for selling my 1990 RX7 GTU to supercharge the 02 Civic Si I had.

X Rx8 12-30-2007 09:48 PM

Maybe a crashed one.

dont get a third gen(fd) as your daily driver, it WILL brake down the motors are designed to only work 60,000 miles or so, if you get a 7 get a 2nd gen turbo....

WHAT KIND OF CAR COMPANY WOULD DESIGN A MOTOR FOR 60,000 miles in the first place?!?!
coming from a knowledgeable person with plenty of RX7 experience (87' (series 4 FC) GXL, 89 TurboII (series 5 FC), 1994 (FD) Touring) I can tell you that a 3rd gen will be just fine for 100-120K before it needs a rebuild, which can run from $700-$1500 if kept stock (great time for a port/polish and 3mm apex seals though!). Keep in mind its a rotary thing, this RX8 isnt any different, besides side ports instead of peripheral its still a good ol' wankel. its going to need a rebuild @ 120k, thats life. 100K is when you should do a compression check, if compression is low- rebuild, if compression is nominal- push that 13b to the limit and check again in 20k! the stock turbos are good for 110-160K. I drove my FD into a guardrail @ the track and sold it for parts sadly.. but it still ran :)
these values are assuming that you maintain it well- especially w/ oil changes and keepin' that coolant clean. you can still beat the crap out of the engine whenever you see fit (to an extent of course) i.e. revving to the buzzer, in fact its good for it to be ran high now and then! the secondary injectors open @ 4K-RPM.
thats if you were to go FD, now if you were to go FC its a whole different story- get ready for a car that you can massacre daily and have it begging for more, ESPECIALLY the N/A FC's. my GXL hasnt had an engine problem in the 30k ive been driving it. closest to an engine problem was the water pump seal, $50 and an hours wrenchwork. my TII, only problems were the clutch rebuild @ 80K and i burned the second gear synchros. the tranny is known for sensitive somewhat synchros, but the TII tranny is one of the best trannys Mazda's ever built. any Miata owner dreams of swapping a TII tranny into their car. the TII LSD is also quite amazing if i may say so myself. sold my TII last year.
still have my GXL, runs like a champ.
in the midst of buying an RX8 very soon.

lilring 01-06-2008 07:16 PM

i bought a 04 with 25,000 miles on it for $17gs out the door.. with a $8,000 down and payments were still $349 per month

ok since you know all, you should know that they have a very key difference, which is the 3rd gen's 13b only have 2 oil injectors while all other models have 4.....thats half the oil being injected to lubricte the apex seals so a young kid thats likes to run the car hard will cause the engine to brake down internally(and im not even gonna start with the faulty sequential turbo sys)......there twice as hard to maintain than the 8 and if you dont know what your doing then you shouldnt have one as your daily driver....why do you think so many people just swap out the 3rd gen with a ls1....dont buy an 3rd gen unless it has a fresh rebuild and is running close to normal psi with a non sequential turbo setup........and you wont find one for 9k anyways......
