FS: 2009 R3, Black. 55k miles.

Year: 2009
Make: Mazda
Model: RX-8
Price: $13000
Mileage: 55400
Color: Black
Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing
Location (US State/Canada/Int): SC

This is a feeler post. My beater car just bit the dust. I have a new baby and it really isn't practical to keep the R3 any more. It mostly sits in the car port. The car has 52k miles. I've owned since 45k miles in May of 2019. It has the new BHR ignition system and a BHR catless midpipe. CEL is on as a result. Old tires but I may throw on new ones before the sale.

It hasn't been compression tested. But if the numbers are good, would anyone be interested? It was in a fender bender at some point in it's life before me. I can give you VIN if you are interested in scoping it out more.

Pics from after I did a rotary (haha) paint correction on it. These are about 6 months old, it's dirty currently.

More Pics. These are from immediately after the paint correction.

Yes. What price were you thinking if compression looks good?

Dang, bummer to hear. Hopefully you can find a reliable daily driver and keep the R3 if it's meaningful to you.

You've taken very good care of the vehicle and I remember when you picked it up. Easily one of the cleanest r3's around imo and definitely cleaner than mine was when I found it in stock form.

$14k sounds very fair. GLWS

That’s possibly not accurate without knowing certain parameters that haven’t been revealed yet. Maybe, maybe not. It would be more truthful to state that both buyers and the seller need to pursue their own good diligence in making a sound decision. Best wishes to both.

Yes that is correct. It will be compression tested once I get word back from the shop on my beater- last I heard it needs 2k worth of work and I am trying to get them to give me an offer for it.

I think your in the ballpark but for reference I bought a red one last June with 13,800 for $13,500.
Boy that’s a nice car though. I would stay at your price for a while or keep it and I can say both my car seats fit in the back fine. One for a baby and one for a 6 years old.

Bump. I am going to find a shop that will do the compression test, though I don't think there are any nearby

I think any Mazda dealer should be able to do a compression test. For what it’s worth, I think you’ll get decent offers once compression is done. You’re asking a good bit to not know engine is healthy.

Mazda dealerships in Charleston or Savannah may be the closest to you. I would see if they can do a compression test for you. Most Mazda dealerships can do them.

Actually I called a dealer in Savannah and they admitted they knew nothing about rotaries so that's a no go.

Wow...that is depressing. Rx8s really aren't even that old. 10 year old car that they pretty much don't support anymore.

How handy are you? Have you changed your own spark plugs? You might be able to borrow (or even buy) a Rotary Compression Tester. Although the guy that makes them just had a loss in the family, so he will be out of the shop for a couple of days.

Yeah I was kind of like, really. No one of any skill around anymore, eh?

I remember that guy, he had a group buy for one. I may look him out. I changed the sparks, wires, and coils myself

Update:

Hello everyone,

So there is a lot of interest in this car. I put it out as a feeler to see if I could sell when the time comes and that doesn't look like it'll be an issue. Make no mistake- it will go to someone here before anywhere else.

Regarding the compression test. I am currently working 3 jobs to support a wife and new baby and there are no shops nearby that offer compression test services. A few have reached out saying I should buy my own handheld, but honestly I'd rather just have a knowledgeable shop do it.

I don't imagine holding on to this car forever, so I assume that the right buyer will be waiting patiently for when that day comes.

Thanks for your interest, I am calling around Monday to see where the closest shop is for tests. As of right now, it has no issues starting or idling. The only issues I've ever encountered was when the battery was failing, which was replaced.

Just curious...if there's more than 1 potential buyer, would you be going by highest bidder or something? Also would love some more interior pics, thx! PM'd

One person has been in contact with me since I posted, I am giving him preference but if it comes down to a serious sell price difference then obviously it would go to the highest price. Sure on the pics, it has been pouring rain and I will snap some when it gets cleared up. I will be getting 15% tint all around Tuesday so may snap some after that.
