You guys seriously spend this much time waxing your cars?

....you do realize that your car is just going to get dirty from exercising it's primary function (remember driving?), require washing, which will send you back into a fit of rewaxing....

I want my car to look good too, but I figured NuFinish carwash, wax, and Armor All wheel cleaner would be fine....

Am I missing something?

 

The waxing protects the car's paint from sun and other weather challenges...

 

I didn't say never wax.....but the 12 coats of Zaino with clay bar and microweave towels or what-have-you?

 

extra extra protection? I never waxed any car before owning this one... so I suppose it's how much you value your items. Since I paid for it myself, might as well protect it.

Llathos, its a labor of love, so to speak. After the first marathon of applying my 6 coats of Zaino, all I have to do for the next year is a monthly recoat. And this stuff goes on very easy and comes off like no wax ever though about.

Not only does the water bead up, but it won't hardly stay on the car so drying it is a snap.

 

Not only does it protect the car's finish, but the car actually looks better because of the improved shine and depth. Dust and pollen just blow off and bug splatter comes off easier. Three years down the road and you'll be able to tell which cars were 'waxed' (or Zainoed) and which ones were not.

But the big plus is you get to be 'close' to your car when detailing it, so it's a win-win.

 

I'm with you, Llathos. I put ONE coat of Zaino on when I got the car back in July. I'll put ONE more coat on this spring when the weather starts to warm up a bit.

I don't have nor do I want to take time to put 20+ coats of anything on my car. I wash it once a month - and not all that excited about that, either.

And, FWIW, it's not "my baby", I don't have a name for it -- it's just my car.

 

It's a hobby. Not much else to say really. For example, one of my other hobbies is barbcueing. I'll take 20 hours to prepare a brisket in my smoker that could be fall apart tender in the oven after five hours. Why? One, it's a hobby and two, there's a difference that's evident to anyone who cares to look for it. Same thing with the car care.

 

Well now that's a different story! What time is dinner? :D

 

At least over here, I have no choice but to wash every 2 weeks at most, or the sand/dirt gets real ugly and can damage the paint. not to mention the tree sap, bird ****, etc.

I also enjoy the activity and the end results of layering the Zaino are worth it to me. The paint is noticeably better looking now after the effort than when it was just 1 or 2 layers.

SO yeah, it's basically a hobby. :D

 

I completely agree w/ firstspin about it being a hobby. Some of us enjoy waxing/washing our cars more than others. You gotta admit that when you finish detailing your ride it makes you proud owning such a great looking vehicle.

Not only a hobby, but the most exercise I get. Cold beer sure tastes better after a long detail job.

 

It all just depends on what you would like to do! After reading the great threads here, I am going to Zaino my car! Hell, I never knew it exsisted till I joined this club. I just used rainx wax.

 

Detailing let's me enjoy being with my car without adding miles to the odometer. Yeah definately a fun hobby for some and just work for others.

I'm married and sometimes wife is very jealous of the baby. Heh, who says men can't have babies!

 

I just washed my 8 tonight and decided to put 2 coats Zaino on the front rims. I've never Zainoed the rims before but I know someone said the brake dust washes right off with a hose so I'm giving it a try. I spent a lot of time getting them clean tonight so I figured why not spend an extra hour if it's going to save me time down the road.

 

I didn't find that it helped.

 

Really? You mean I'm still going to have to manually wash off the brake dust? I've been using the Meguire's Hot Rims and Wheel Cleaner that many have recommended but that doesn't take off a whole lot of anything. I was hoping Zainoing the rims would allow me to just turn on the hose with a forceful spray and shoot that stuff right off :p

On the bright side I found a use for all those stretched out old athletic socks I have in a drawer...they make good rims cleaners.

My rims are so clean now I almost don't want to drive the car. I cleaned the entire rim and not just the outer part. My hands are pretty small so I can slide them along the wide flat surface of the inner rim. It's a little tricky to get around the calipers (which is why the long sock comes in handy) and I get a few tiny little cuts on the back of my hands but the rims looks much cleaner when the entire inside of the rim is clean as well as the outside.
