Winter Car Care

Please allow me to introduce myself. I'm a second owner of a V-red MT Grand Touring 2004 bought at dealer auction in Central Florida in December of last year. I have used a man who has a dealer's license to buy my last four cars at auction, and have been able to save a bundle of money on each purchase. The day after the auction he personally delivered it to me in the Tampa Bay area, and it was everything I had hoped for ... and more. The sellers really do a great job of fixing up the cars for sale at auction by detailing the inside and waxing the outside. It looked sweet!
Now I had been lurking in the forum for some time, and I had been educated to two words I had never heard before- claybar and Zaino. Let me say I am not a noobie when it comes to car care. In fact, both kids came home for winter break this year, and like a good father I spent hours detailing and waxing both of their cars (they looked as if they hadn't been washed all semester). Then my wife gives me that hurt-puppy-look like 'you never do that for my car!' so I do the same for her Lexus. And last but not least, I've got to fix up my '96 Exploder for sale since I replaced it with the 8, so my waxing technique might be considered almost expert.
Back to the claybar and Zaino. I was worried, quite frankly, about all the time people said it would take to apply a show finish to the car. I work hard during the week, and weekends are normally filled with a round of golf Sat. and Sun., hence not leaving enough sunlight for a six to nine hour car care marathon. My vanity got the best of me, though, and I purchased the ClayMagic Claybar at a local auto supply store, and got the ZFX, Z2, Z5 and Z6 from the Zaino store online.
I could not have been more pleased, both with ease of application and appearance of the finished product. The claying took no more time than a detailed wash would, in my opinion. Maybe 45 minutes. I started Sat. pm around 2:00, washed/clayed/washed/dried. Then applied 2 coats of ZFX-Z5, with Z6 in between. I was done by 5:00. Next day, I started at 1:00 pm, wash (my wife asks 'You gonna wash that thing every day?') then 2 more coats of ZFX-Z5, Z6 in between, and topped off with one coat of Z2. Done by 4:00 pm. The look is simply amazing! Covered up all those pesky swirl marks. Super slick, super deep, super shiny! By far, the best finish I've ever achieved on a car.
For those who haven't tried, I heartily endorse claying your car. The finish will feel like glass instead of fine-grain sandpaper. And the Zaino is tops!
