waxing windshields: good

i don't see anything here on this board in regards to wax for windshields, so i decided to add a thread here only to provide some "theoritical" benefits.

i ALWAYS wax the windshield when its time to clean my car. the reason is for sudden occasions that i may get stuck behind a big-rig goin on the 605 or whatnot. some(not all) haul rocks/debris without running a cargo cover and casually fling a rock or two at my windshield. i hate this. and as a way to combat scratches and possible cracks, i wax the windshield instead of using window cleaner as i don't see any drawbacks from doing so. it lessens some degree of scratches/cracks as the surface is more smooth and slick.

how you take it...its entirely up to you if you think this will work or benefit you. its just what i do for the extra precaution. cheers, thanks for lookin

I could see it working to lessen some scratches or what not, but it mainly just works as a water repelant. Much like rain-x...oh wait thats what rain-x is.

I used to put a thin coat of a cleaner wax on my windshield every now and then because the main problem your going to have is that it starts to mess up your wipers.

also .......belieave it or not....it clogs the pores on the glass making it easy to blur and or crack.for proof ask any good glass company that replaces windshields.cool to do but has a few drawbacks.

I used to use Liquid Glass and I would put it on my glass. Basically acts like Rain-x

http://www.liquidglass.com/FAQ.htm#Q9

Q. Will Liquid Glass Polish/Finish protect glass? A.Yes. Liquid Glass Polish/Finish will protect any nonporous surface including glass. It can be used on the windshield, and will dramatically decrease the need for wiper blades.

The Rain-X will remove the wax you just put on your windows. Rain-X also makes your windows look reallllllyyy clean.

I use Nu finish.

The silcone makes the water run off fast.

I've seen wax cause the glass to fog easier. Paint cleaning clay however does a great job and might give you the results you're looking for.
