I over-spread some wax onto my plastic bumper and mirror pieces, and now they have white streaks on them that won't go away. I even tried Goof-Off on a little part, and that dulled the plastic and didn't even remove the wax all that well. How do I get it off?

Peanut butter is abrasive and the oil acts as a surfactant.

Use regular citrus cleaner like Orange Blast. It will return the OEM texture and disolve the wax.
You can use Mother's Bumper Black, too, though it will eventually evaporate.

 

I would use 303 Protectant, makes short work of most white wax residues.



.....it's also the best stuff to protect the plastic bits from UV fading.

you guys are all wrong, use a pencil eraser. Just erase it off, then wipe it down, after that you can use a light conditioner.. voila!

 

"Back-to-Black"?? or are there two diffferent products? Back to Black covers it and looks good for a while.

About pencil eraser: sounds promising. The new Mr. Clean Magic Eraser also works well. Use judiciously, since it's quite abrasive. It leaves a fine white powder that you need to brush off. Then follow with Back to Black.

BTW--this topic has been covered in previous threads, and almost all of the above suggestions are repeats. A Search would probably have brought up the old threads.

 

303 is incredible, get it.

 

303 just covers it up. When you wash it just comes back. I use a Mr. Clean magic eraser. 2 things though. 1) use lots of water 2) be careful of the paint. I have used the eraser many times and have had absolutly no problems. I haven't tried it on the paint but I would imagine it isn't good for it. It will get rid of the streaks for good.

 

WD-40 sprayed on an old toothbrush works everytime.

 

Use dawn plus brush, WD-40 can kill certain type of plastics

 

just use a dam pencil eraser! haha

 

Ya use dawn, Zaino recommends dawn to remove wax

Make sure it is a #2 pencil or the plastic won't take the eraser.

 

If you haven't tried it; peanut butter.

No joke.

smooth peanut butter, apply some, let set for a couple minutes and wipe off. If the plastic is textured you may need a toothbrush to rub it in, but not really needed.

Wax on the roof racks of Protege5's happen all the time and we use peanut butter

 

Actually I tried this today. Had a little on the plastic on the bumper. Just rubbed it lightly with a pencil eraser(yes it was a #2) and it magically disapperared. Worked pretty well in fact. That whole peanut butter thing sounds way too messy to me.

 

Never tried it myself, but have been told to simply use hot water on a sponge and it melts the wax from the fine grooves in the plastic.

 

Just did the pencil eraser and it works. Don't use an art eraser, it makes a big mess and doesn't work half as good. I even did some of the interior and works great on small marks on fabric as well.
