Hi, Im going to go get the PC7424 from coastaltool, but am not sure what pads and polish to start with.

Would the Sonus SFX pads and polish be a good start? I dont want to get too complicated and go mix matching pads/polish etc (not yet anyways). I wanna give it a try first. I only have some fine scratch and swirl marks.

I bought a PC and the Sonus pad set that includes the velcro backing plate. Depending on what you are trying to do, here are a few tips to remove defects like swirls:

1) Always start with the least aggresive polish, like Meguiars #82 or #80, or my personal favorite #83 when using a PC. Might need to make a few passes with 83. If that doesnt work, you probably have deeper blemishes, so go a bit more aggresive Dont be afriad of run the PC at 5 or 6, it does very well there. Anything slower wont do much on our fairly hard clear coat.

2) Use a glaze like Meguiars #9 or #3 machine glaze to really bring out some depth and/or hide some minor blemishes. This step is optional. Nice thing about #3 is it is almost a pure glaze, but not just quite (it has some abrasives in it I think). Anyways, if you have any hazing from #83 (I didnt), then use #3 to polish that out. I used #3 anyways and made the car look so liquid.

3) Top it off with your favorite sealant or wax. Cant go wrong with much here....Prep is everything. Since winter is coming up, use a good sealant like anything from the Mothers line, Meguiars line, or Duragloss...etc. Duragloss seems to be the best I've used by far, and its tough. If you are worried about lasting all winter, top off the sealant with a really tough wax called Collonite. That stuff is hard as nails.

 

All you really need is the softest pad unless you are really trying to repair a big scuff or clearcoat blemish
