Ok guys, please don't rip me to shreds on this one because I am sure it has been discussed in threads somewhere on this forum...but...do you use the synthetic or natural chamois skins on your 8's for drying after washing? A buddy of mine says he has always used the synthetic, but I'm guessing you folks are going to take exception to that?!

 

Probably something in show and shine. I have had both and I actually like the synthectic Absorber ones the best. They are a lot more effective than the naturals IMO ....now with women I prefer natural

I use synthetic on mine. i find they absorb more. last longer and the Abosrber one comes in a nice little plastic tube for storage.

The synthetic chamois does absorb more but I use the California water blade for the majority of the water shedding.

Use microfibre, absorbs when wet, cleans when dry without scratch.

 

I have used microfiber and have found it can scratch. If you do use it make sure it is very clean and test on an area that is not well seen. Don't get me wrong there are good microfibers out there but some of the inexpensive ones are not good.

The vroom brand at Target seem fine but I mainly use them for cleaning interior and glass. Not that good for absorbing water like a chamois does.

 

It can scratch if you use powder detergent to wash it or simply larger dust particles on the car. It can really absorb water, you just have to waterlogged it with water first then twist it to get rid of excess then wipe water off your car. Weird but that's how it works in my case. Anyway if you know how to hose down your car properly, sometimes there's not much wiping to do at all. Chamois is good, only problem is you gotta keep them moist plus you gotta take care of them more than microfobre.

 

In my old Detail shop and now I still us good Old Cotton bath towels. Soft, and do not strip wax, allot of chamois and even the sythetic ones can strip wax. We never used them. I still do not , takes me 3 towls to wipe her down. If you do the towel method, when you was do not use fabric softner it will put a film on the towel. Just what I do been doin it for 15 years

 

I really like microfiber towels. They seem to absorb very well and don't take up hardly any of the wax. I don't use them on a dry car, but rather to dry my 8 after washing/rinsing or with Meguairs Quick Detailer spray.BTW, I always run them through a second rinse cycle when I wash them so that I am certain all the detergent has been rinsed away.

 

I dumped chamois in favor of microfiber towels. Compare the nap of a microfiber towel to a chamois and then imagine a speck of dirt getting underneath both as you dry. The microfiber will be much more forgiving and I think they are more absorbent than the chamois.

From this forum I've also learned to do the final rinse with an open hose rather than a nozzle and to use a leaf blower to get the car mostly dry. Both are great tips. After the <ahem> "blow job" I can finish drying the car in a couple of minutes with one 16" square microfiber towel.

 

I use a microfiber towel for most of the car, but an Absorber for the bumpers/side skirts and other lower areas. One thing I do, especially when using the microfiber towel, is just gently lie the towel down on the surface of the car, and sort of 'dab' at the water. I DON'T rub the towel against the car. This seems to remove the water quite well, and reduces the chances of scratching... and with a Brilliant Black 8, I'll do whatever I can to reduce scratching.

 

I use the Big Blue Microfiber towel and the Absorber (Synthetic Chamois). Real chamois require too much work and really don't work all that well.
