now the question is: who can we trust to judge this friendly competition?
#29
I've got a White RX8 and do not know any of the contestants. I think we need a panel of 3 judges to make it right. Shine and beauty are always subjective.
PS. I've never used Zaino either, so I can be VERY objective.

your hood looks all fixed too jorge great shine as well.
i'm going to get my windows fixed tomorrow and then in a week or so ask jun to help me again polishing out the h20 spots. hopefully, i'll get some shine back eventually.

Sorry scremn8, I'd prefer to own Winning Blue and obviously I do, but I can't doubt the quality of his work on Jedi's black.

I gotta check into Zaino products! I've never seen a black car look that...juicy! Even on showroom floors.

I'd highly recommend Zaino to anyone who doesn't mind spending a couple hours with their RX-8. Zaino is not a fast process but it's definitely worth it.

10 rwhp. If you don't believe me, I've got dyno sheets from this weekend to prove it.

Thanks kgonz012, I really appreciate that! It's pretty cool to know that people follow my thread and have become zaino users because of it.

You should check out the zaino site. I switched to zaino last year. Here was the right up I posted at the time that should be fairly correct:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, some of you will have heard of this stuff on the rx8club board. I haven't seen a lot of BB owners in the area, but I'm sure most of you can empathize with the woes black cars tend to have. Besides, being impossible to keep clean, swirl marks and scratches are more pronounced on black cars for more or less the same reason that polar bears appear white instead of black. When the clearcoat finish gets marred in any way, it refracts light and appears as white. White on black is pretty easy to see.
Additionally, I have probably the most lax car cleaning tendencies of the club. So, now you have a lazy SOB with a black car. Needless to say, my car was riddled with ultra-fine swirl marks. I decided to bite the bullet and actually wax the car.
The question then became what should I use. I wanted something a simpleton like myself could apply with relatively few restrictions, limited risk, with great results, and durability. So, I went and go a zaino protection kit.
Note: the NJ area retailer of choice for Zaino is http://www.hcvind.com/. You can't order direct from Zaino for some reason and there are only 2 NJ distributors - one of which won't ship.
So, I broke down on Saturday and cleaned the car.
1. Clean the wheels.
2. Wash the car with dawn or other dish detergent to strip the wax.
3. Clay barred the hood, fenders, and upper front bumper where I had the most debris. Should clay bar the ground trim some day.
4. Wash the car with Zaino car wash.
5. Dry car.
6a. Wax with Zaino Z-5 Scratch Removing Wax.
6b. Buff off hazed wax.
6c. Use Z-6 detailing spray.
7. Repeat 6a-c as desired.
8. Repeat 6a-c using Z-2 show polish/wax.
I got 3 coats of z-5 on. I haven't used z-2 yet as it got dark. My hood is now piano black.
Some notes:
1. Everything smells like blueberries. You will have a craving for pie when done with the car.
2. With the ZFX mixed in with the wax, the wax will be ready for buffing off within a couple minutes. It was about 45 degrees outside on Saturday so I let each coat sit for about 30 min. Its easy to tell when it isn't done and trying to buff it too early isn't an issue. It just won't work.
3. You can use as many coats of zaino z-2 and z-5 interchangeably as you want.
So, I think I'll be sticking with this stuff. If it allows me to keep a decent looking black car, it is probably the best stuff on the planet.

Some quick notes:
Zaino is polarized or something and works best by its self. That's why you wash the car with dish wash to remove other waxes.
Zaino doesn't haze as pure white. It's less prone to leaving that white garbage in cracks and hard to reach places.
Zaino + BB is ungodly sexy until the first breeze blows and the car is dirty again.
