I have a scratch on my rear bumper. It is through the paint and has scratched the paint on the bumper cover pretty bad. But, the scratch is probably only a total of 3 inches long. Is there anything that I can do to make the scratch blend a little better? I took some touch-up paint and filled it in as best as I could and it looks better. Anything that ya'll would suggest?

Yes, you can catch a fingernail on it.

 

You could use a Porter Cable and some good scratch removing polish to smooth it down and cover it up slightly. A porter cable is about $150, polish is usually around $10, and pads are also about $10. Worth a single scratch? No, but it may help you out later on if you want to keep your paint in shape.

Btw, where did you get your touch-up paint from?

 

They malied it to me for free about 3 months after I bought the car.

 

I was about to post a very similar thread. I just noticed this afternoon a deep scratch, and lesser ones on the rear bumper of my car. I suspect the dealer did it. My wife took it in for me for an oil change yesterday. They were definately not on there when she left the house, and she would have told me if she hit something. While there is a non-zero chance it happened at work today, where I parked would have made it extremely difficult to hit in that spot, if not impossible.

 

Follow the instructions in the rock chip sticky https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-show-shine-26/rock-chip-help-7980/. If you can feel it with your fingernail, it will require the touchup paint. You'll have to sand and buff the area per the instructions to blend it in.

Thanks for the link. The upper scratch is a good 1/32" or 2 deep so it will definately need some sanding.

 

Take it to a competent body shop and let them have a look.

 

best way to fix it is professionally, unless you are good with using a buffer.
