My red color is muting

Went to the dealer today to get a bottle of touch up paint just to be ready when the first disaster happens. Anyway I got my red GT one month ago and so far I must have put in 7 coats of Z2 , 5 coats of Z6 and 2 coats of Z5.

Today when I parked my car at the dealer I went and parked right next to a red GT just like mine . Big surprise my red color has changed. The dark pigmentation of red that was showing on my car has disappeared.I had noticed it before but I tought it was my imagination. Now, being parked right next to a brand new one, the difference was evident altough not catastrophique; my car is still super good looking.

Do you think that Zaino products might be the cause of this or is it normal for a metallic red color to change so quickly even if I live in an area that has not received a lot of heavy sun ray since I have owned the car.

Might it also be attributable to the optical perfection of the Zaino vs. a yellow carnauba wax used on the dealer's car?

How did the touch up paint compare to the color of your car?

First of all, WOW! 7/5/2 coats of Zaino. You must spend all your time waxing rather than driving

I don't think you have anything to worry about since Zaino is a non-abrasive wax. It is more than likely what B-Nez stated and is the reflective nature of Zaino in comparison to what the dealer applied. Also, but less likely, is that the paint on your car is slightly different than the newer car. Different batches of paint can vary slightly but its usually unnoticable. last but even less likely, is that you've already have some fading of the paint. The only way I could see this happening is if your car is parked in direct sunlight for many hours a day and for many days.

I actually did not use the touch up paint so far. As far as posting pics, in order for you to see the difference I would have needed to take the picture the moment my car was parked next to the brand new one. Even by doing that; I m not sure that the difference would have been visible. Posting pics of my car alone will not show you much that will demonstrate what I mean.

Let us know how the paint matches when you do use it. Last weekend I repaired about a dozen chips on my wife's car. I read that you need the final coat to completely dry for a week before you sand. So two weekends ago I used touch up paint and then last weekend I finished it and painted about a dozen more chips. If it goes this next weekend as well as last weekend did (you really can't see the repair at all) then I'm ready to tackle my red 8. It has about 5-6 chips!
