My green 8- Zaino'd before and after

Hope you guys can stand another one- here's my car before and after- this stuff kicks ass. And with three people, it only takes 4 hours to wash, claybar, wash, polish, and polish again.

Before:

after: http://www.elysianplains.com/NC-2003/small/DSC00487.gif

I saw the green in person finally at my dealership when I got my oil change.
The green is awesome it has more flakes and sparkles then my red does

Elara 09-10-2003 08:50 PM

Yes, but the red is RED! And those gold mica flakes...oh, wow...I wasn't quite brave enough to get red- I know I'd be covered in speeding tickets before the end of the first month.

nice job on zaino-ing the 8. i was a little hesitant in doing it to my car, since the Meguiar's 3-step process did the job and the amount of time it took. now, seeing your car, i am going to have get me some zaino.

Elara, which Zaino did you use?

thanks

santino

the_doug 09-10-2003 11:43 PM

Very nice, Elara!

But if three people did the job, do you have to let the other two drive, too? :D

Washed with blue Dawn, then claybared it, then the Z7 wash, Z5 with the ZFX (2 coats), and Z6 gloss enhancer. I probably didn't need to Dawn, but I was being paranoid and following every direction down to the letter.

the_doug - I did have to let them drive it, but one was my husband, who was already driving it some, and the other guy is a good friend that I promised a drive to a long time ago - it was also the only way I could bribe him to help! However, they are the only other people who are allowed to even TOUCH it.

Genom 09-11-2003 07:48 AM

Wow Elara. Zaino just brings those dark colors to life! Damn! I wish my titty gray showed that much improvement after Zaino. Although the enhanced gloss doesnt seem that aparent in the garage but when it goes out it's IS nice and gleaming.

Although If I had known all about Zaino before I ordered the car I might have stuck with that black car.

Although Zaino certainly improved the feel of the pain a LOT, and made washes a whole lot easier :D

I did a update Zaino coat the other day (Z7 wash, then Z2 and finally Z6) and took me about 2 hours for everything. Not too bad I thought. The most time consuming part for me is drying the car with this florida humidity.

Speed Racer 09-11-2003 08:40 AM

Elara,
Great before and after shots, it really shows what Zaino can do. It is not nearly that dramatic on my Velocity Red.

the_doug 10-19-2003 08:35 PM

Hi Elara - I don't know if you're still reading this thread, but if you are, how is the Zaino holding up on your green?

Mine just came in Wednesday!!! I already have almost 800 miles, due to a talk I had to give in the far corner of the state. But now I'm thinking of the Zaino route...

FYI, Zaino will last longer than anything you have ever used. It is easier to tell on the darker colors (such as your green), but is even noticeable on my light color (Yellow). I have not applied Zaino to my wifes Volvo in 6 months, and this picture was taken yesterday morning.

I was going to put another coat, but the towel still slides off the hood with no effort.

tpryor 10-20-2003 06:19 AM

My Lightning Yellow, as of yesterday morning........

This is the roof reflection.

B-Nez 10-20-2003 06:26 AM

tpryor, nice jack. You must work on your cars quite a bit, eh?

Not really. I do all of my own maintenance, as I have NO faith in dealers. I also autocross, and change tires a LOT, so a good jack is necessary.

This one came from Harbor Freight (there is a store a mile from my house) - we went to buy the smaller one ($199), called to verify it was in stock (they said it was), and when we arrived, they didn't have one!

I said that we had just called, and he said "would you take the blue one ($299) for the same price"? Duhhh, OK.

So, we have a cool jack! Also had a coupon for 15% off, which they honored. Who am I to argue......?

Zaino on silver :D

sandiegorx8 10-20-2003 09:23 PM

I got my zaino last thrusday. I didn't have the 8 at home today but did the bug. Holy @#$ that stuff is shiny! I didn't take too long. I used the clay bar then washed again and then the 2 and the 5 followed by the 6 spray. It looks like new. It's original paint too. I'm looking forward to getting it on the 8. My buddy was here waxing his Torch Red Vette with Maguires and will be buying the zaino soon. It's like nothing I've ever used before. Even the Mothers system didn't shine like this. It's definitely worth the investment. Definitely!

j1mb0x99 10-22-2003 02:51 PM

I had been thinking about getting zaino a bit but it has been locked in after seeing these pictures. I will have to frequent this section more often now.

The water is still beading on the car, and all I have to do is wash it and it looks great. I intend on zainoing it once more before the winter sets in, and it should be good to go.

Omicron 10-23-2003 09:10 AM

Ok, not to be a nay-sayer here ('cause I'm NOT)... but I have to point out that in the before and after pics, I can't help but notice that the car was in significantly different locations. The first one had nothing above the car to reflect, while the second (after) pic had lots of trees. I think this skews the results a bit. Just had to throw that out.

Still though, I *am* impressed with Zaino from what I can tell. Is it possible the forum here could get a "group buy" on the stuff, and offer it to it's members at a discount?

TDS 10-24-2003 12:26 AM

I did the Zanio thing for the 1st time two weeks ago. Followed all the steps. My Green 8 looks great! For 10 years I used carnuba but no more. Really happy with the results. I only did 1 layer along with the gloss spray. Does anyone have advice on the accelerator product to allow multiple layers without 12 hrs. delay?
I'll post pictures when I have time to do justice to the shine.

pelucidor 10-24-2003 01:01 PM

The ZFX is a must - I ALWAYS do two layers at a time (that will be twice then I suppose as I only have 4 coats total) as it only takes an extra 30 mins to add that second layer once you've already got everything else done.

BTW months after my last Zaino session, after torrential rains and driving through 'flooded' roads up to the bumpers and parking the car outside (garage was repainted) whilst they are building a house next door (grading the lot - very dusty) the car looked as if it had been through a rally. Fifteen minutes with a hose, Z7 and a towel and it was as good as when I applied my last Zaino layer (i.e. better than new). Drying is a 'breeze' too as I have a Toro leaf blower - har har.

'...Better than new' - YES! A Zainoed car actually looks better after a wash with Zaino wash.

It might seem like it, but really, it didn't skew it that much. The car didn't reflect much of anything before I zainoed it. And now, even when it's filthy, it's really shiny and reflective. I'm not at home right now, or I'd post even better pictures.

TDS 10-25-2003 03:46 AM

Hey fellow GREEN owners,
I finally went for a Toro leaf blower to dry my 8. This was the best 36 bucks I ever spent on my car!
After Zanio two weeks ago, washing was a snap. Zanio water beeding was fantastic and the blower made the job easier than I could ever have imagined. The whole wash/dry job only took 1 hour.
Drying with the blower solved all the problems with the grill and brake vents which weeped water forever after previous washings.

Irish_in_a_RX8 10-28-2003 12:09 PM

Zaino'ed mine last weekend. Two coats of Z2 ZFX then Z6. Got a personal demo since Zaino Bros. is quite local here.

Powerful Stuff!

The pictures of those silver cars..looks like chrome! Ill have to see if I can get some of that. Does anyone know who supplies Zaino in the UK?

shebam 10-30-2003 05:17 PM

Looks like a devoted Nordic Green contingent out there. After mine came through in July I wished I'd ordered the Nav. system and could have swapped the dealer for one with it, but didn't want to give up the NG with Chap. Thanks for the Zaino (of which I was ignorant) info and pictures. Maybe we should have our own thread. :)

JINXRX 10-30-2003 05:37 PM

so will washing the car with Dawn soap hurn the paint any? Cause I was told not to wash the car with dish soap. Just a question.

mikeb 10-30-2003 05:58 PM

dont wash with dawn

Twin8s_babigirl 10-30-2003 06:27 PM

Another message from my Dad, cause his account is hosed (Twin 8s!) If anyone know someone that can send him a new password please let me know.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have two RX-8s. My wife's is Winning Blue and just finished our first Zanio treatment. Washed with Dawn, clay barred the entire car, washed again, and put two coats of Z2 on. To be honest, we were amazed how good the car looked after the clay bar work... but then we applied Z2. It was amazing. After just one coat, the silver specks in the blue paint looked like they were floating. Applied a second coat and took some shots. I think they are too big so I will work with them and see if I can shrink them down.

We are doing my black 8 tomorrow... and get this, my wife is excited to help, just to see how it turns out.

shots soon.

Any disciple of Zaino will say: wash with Dawn just once (it removes everything) and then claybar the car and then you are on the path to Zaino bliss.

Twin8s_babigirl 10-31-2003 07:15 AM

ref those who say.... Don't use Dawn.... Zaino specifically calls for using Dawn to strip off old wax build up and states that it will not hurt paint.

Why would we question him since the success of his product would be at stake?

I can put you intouch with my Zaino Distributor Contact. I am sure he would be more than happy to mail you his products. PM me.

Evil Weevil 11-16-2003 11:49 AM

2 questions...

1. Is it *really* neccesary to clay a new car (all of it?!) before applying Zaino?

2. What's the equivalent of Dawn in the UK ? Most dishwashing liquids seem to have all sorts of other crap in it - anti-bacterial/kind to your hands/overloaded scent etc. etc.

I really want to use this stuff on my new 8 (when I get it!) so I'm trying to ask all the pertinent questions now :) I'm a bit worried about the whole temperature thing - my car is due 1st week in January (NOT warm!)

1. Yes, new cars still have fallout, rail dust and those little tiny black specs in the paint (hard to see). YOu dont want them trapped in there by a polymer sealant like Zaino

2. Any dishwashing soap should do the trick

3. Use warmer water, rubber gloves to wash. Use a leaf blower to dry. Find someone with a garage

willzie 11-19-2003 05:53 PM

I was told that detergent eats into the clearcoat. I used to wash with detergent and now i notice rough patches in the paint, even after I wax with Meg Gold. I'm in Oz and have never heard of Zaino :(

Great pics! She sure is sweet. I just brought my Nordic Green 6-Speed GT home Saturday and cant wait to try that Zaino. I fell in love with the Black/Chapperal with the green. Its just too damn classy. Gotta tell you guys this ride is awesome and it gets better everytime I take her out. The hardest part is holding back until shes broken in. Saw a red one today for the first time in the philly area, and we both had smiles to share :). That red smokes! Thanks to all on this board for some great info that made my decision easy.

Go Eagles!

Evil Weevil 11-20-2003 01:55 PM

willzie - you're right about using the stuff regularly - it won't do you any favours at all - too 'corrosive'. But it's OK as a 'one-off, first-step' before applying a good wax, or before a polish, then wax.

Def. not something to use for regular washing!
