Yes it is normal, as with any exhaust system. As topgear said just get some mothers mag/aluminum polish! Works wonders, it's what I always use

I clean my Racing Beat exhaust tips every weekend when I was hit. Using Meguiars soap in there weekly helps to slow down the build up.
Every few months, use English Custom Polish and they look better then new.

HOLD THE PRESSES!

This is now the best ******* polish there is for your exhaust tips.

http://www.lusterlace.com/auto.html

Took me 20 minutes to polish BOTH pipes to brand spankin' new condition from golden yellow corrosion POS. The rust literally fades away in front of your eyes with every swipe.

Don't know how they do it, but I don't care. It works like magic. Gone are my days of getting polish all over the exhaust shroud after hours of polishing.

^^ unless you've got before / after pics, I'm gonna stick with English Custom Polish.
Check the no more gold racing beat tips thread for pics.

Ummm... Which polish? They list about a dozen variants.

Stick with Old English if you can get it or Mothers if you can't. Like Jedi I wash mine almost weekly with soap/water and every month or two apply Old English. It's the best bang for the buck to not only polish your exhaust, remove the carbon build up, and help the bronzing of the tips. Plus it lasts a while. Haven't seen any other that accomplishes all three as well. Tho there are very good arguments that combining two products will get you at least comparable results.

Plus one can of Old English is gonna last you the life of your car.

The luster lace. Duhr. Actually, every one of their product works great (I have wide sized luster lace, sealant, and luster pads). Tested all three, and while its not recommended that you put sealant on a hot surface, the pad and laces work extremely well.

It's almost magic.

You're talking about a ridiculously low price..., chump change really. It's rather pointless to even consider it if you're able to afford a $30,000 car.

I used to use never dull, using mothers right now. No real preference, they all seem to clean well enough.

I was still in the process of waxing the car (zaino) and didn't get a chance to use back to black on the trim when I took these photos.

Just a suggestion that makes the cleaning much easier IMO.

When I clean my tips, I use a drill and my mothers cleaning/polishing ball.

If I am to use that Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish, will it change the color of my tips? Mine right now are the Agency Power that are blue on the ends of the tips...will this polish affect those at all??

I used Mothers on mine. They did what I needed done, the inside will always get dirty, so I don't really mind the black rim on the insides.

I dont know what it is, but im using english custom hot polish and i cant get the carbon/gunk off the rim/edge/tips of the exhaust. Have not even bothered to try getting the inside at ALL. the left side does come a lot cleaner than my right side. I have a mazdaspeed exhaust. The outside of it does look pretty good though.

Last weekend i tried using a felt pad on my dremel and polishing it on max speed (15000 rpm) and all it did was destroy the felt. Whats the secret ? Ive tried rubbing by hand with the english and a microfiber towel for 15-20 mins and see very little progress, and its hot as all hell outside right now.
