How to clean exhaust tips?

Hey guys got a 2005 Rx8 Sport, just wondering what other people are using to clean the exhaust tips on their 8s? im not sure what to use, i just dont wanna do something that will ruin the finish or corrode it, but i wanna get the gunk off. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

When i bought my car..it had been excellently maintained...except for the exhaust tips...they were completely black... I used brasso and elbow grease... they look great now.

That looks great, I'll be picking some up tomorrow. :D

Thanks.

I have to agree. Nevrdull works great. You might use a few strips if the carbon is really baked on but youll see it getting thinner and smaller every time. Good stuff.

that stuff is $16 a bottle for something that nevr-dull does just as good for $5.. my previous statement stands.. can we sticky this? i see treads asking about how to clean exhaust tips all the time.. at least in this one there are 2 choices with pics..

I have the same issue. I will buy some nevr dull tonight and post pics of before and after.

i just use the leftover car wash detergent. works every time. why bother with yet another cleaning product? Or sometimes I use the alloy wheel cleaner too. if it is that bad, then I try with Simple Green. So far the car wash detergent works great.

People seem to like both but from the pics I've seen it seems like the English Chrome is a better restorative. It's also a fair amount harsher (wear gloves!), slightly more expensive, and obviously more difficult to actually find. Since a bottle will last me approx. 82 years and 20 cars I'm not really all that concerned about spending the extra $10... YMMV. ;)

If you've got a new exhaust and plan on polishing regularly or are in a hurry and just need something then you should probably go the nevrdull route. However if you have a ton of carbon buildup or haven't polished your tips in years then you might want to go the English route. A bottle will literally last you the life of your car regardless of how often you polish.

I don't think I've seen anyone complain about either product.

Eagle one never dull, is a great product, I've used it for a couple of years now.

English Custom Polish

NgoRX8 06-23-2008 06:47 PM

i clean mine every 3 weeks. comes out bright and shiny.

blue magic metal polish. but any metal polish will work given enough rubbing.

Raptor2k 06-23-2008 08:56 PM

Never dull: best performance to price ratio.

I like the Gold!

Apparently the camera is better than i thought. It shows the scratches you can not see with the eye. I have been using mothers mag and alum polish for years. I had a bike with a polished frame and have tried many differant metal polishes and mothers was always far better. The price is very comparable to neverdull and last just as long to.

Holy shiat Magic! Those are the cleanest set of tips I've ever seen evar!

Anyone with Greddy tips have anything to add?

the4v3ry 06-24-2008 01:33 PM

I used the wheel polish from GriotsGarage.com three days ago and it worked like a hot dang. I used a cotton terry rag and the polish compound by hand, and got them as shiny as the ones above in about 10 minutes. If I used power tools I would probably have been done in 3.

bigireland 06-24-2008 09:44 PM

3 choices with pics!! this thread deserves a sticky..

Myriad 06-26-2008 08:03 PM

Did some Nevrdull tonight, worked out well

dothackRAVE 06-26-2008 08:17 PM

My pipes weren't as nasty, but it had shit on it from rallycrossing on salted snow too (like tiny stalagtites were growing...). Mother's Aluminium Polish and elbow grease. Looks as good as new now.

Oh, note that mine are MazdaSpeed pipes.

jboyl03 06-26-2008 10:11 PM

..jus got an 8 about alittle over a month ago and my exhaust tips have a bunch of baked on carbon...never knew this crap is so much of a workout.:banghead: ive been using nevr dull.

Gauge 06-27-2008 03:37 AM

Other than soap and water when washing the car I use Mothers chrome polish after I finish my wheels, and they still look brand new. Ive had the exhaust a year.

RX7joey 06-29-2008 12:48 AM

i agree with anyone who says English Custom Hot Chrome
