Thumbs up First time Clay Baring used a Meguiars Clay Bar...

And it worked great!
Just got a Meguiars box from Autozone. It came with two Clay Bars in a Box some stuff you spray on before you use the Clay bar and some wax that takes off more crap from your car/paint and a terry cloth towl. Cant go wrong for $17
It was in the mid 70F today so I washed and clay bared the car WOW! you can see and feel the difference! Cant wait to wax the baby

Yup, amazing what comes off that you can't actually see, but after claying you sure can feel the difference. Just keep it well lubed with detailing spray, a small area at a time, and keep working the clay so it doesn't thin/dry out.

I don't think you need to do it THAT often . I clay bar twice a year (and strip/polish) and even though I live in NYC, I think that's perfect since I layer my sealants/wax. You brought the kit, eh?

Meguair's Clay Bars tend to break down a little too fast and start to stick. Try looking for Blue/Clay Magic or Mothers, they pick up a little more contaminants with less passings (which is good since there's less friction). You would also like to pick upa few microfiber towels, costco has a great giant pack of yellow micro fiber towels in the car section. The ones at costco are cheap and they're great beginners towels. Terry towels sometimes mar the paint (try doing a scratch test on a CD) and of course that leads to a bad finish and they don't pick up as much water as MF's. Once you go with micro fiber towels, you won't go back.

Not trying to be a smart *** or anything, just giving my 2 cents!

I too only clay a couple/few times a year, before application of a high content carnauba wax. The rest of the time is Ice and detailing spray (the later almost daily; at least the front end).

im really picky when it comes to crap like this, i hate rubbing my hand on my car and it not being as smooth as it is after a claybar and wax, but i start to notice thing even after a week, so i dont mind claybarring at least once a weeks...give it that velvety touch with the sexy look and you got the perfect looking car...

i think claybaring too often might damage your paint...

it's like getting professional carpet cleaners to steam clean your carpets every time you should be just doing a routine vacuum- ie, you're going to wear out the fibers too soon from over doing it.

but, that's just what i've been told.

same goes for compounding polish. its a mild abrasive. and i'd hate for it to get to that point where the tar sap and contaminant are noticeable to the touch to call for a compounding....or clay barring for those that prefer that. i've never clay barred so not familiar with the routine.

but yeah... i take EVERY other procedure to keep the compound and bar away.
i.e. wax after every wash, dust after garage parking, and try not to keep rain water from drying on vehicle if possible.

its just crazy to see people more hardcore at this. and i'm just a lazy fu- when compared to all u's.

ha... yeah i just purchased my first clay bar set and it is amazing! i never thought it would work that great. I finished the car off with the NXT wax and it was just perfect. I spent about 5 hours on my car last Saturday and my car looked awesome. My dad liked how good it looked he offered me to do his truck this weekend for $100. I think i'm going to take him up on that...

Sorry guys, i've never used caly bar, and i know you guys like people to search, but since we are on topic, how does this clay bar works? how many would i need to get my 8 done? what are the steps that give the best results?...i know there's a lot of you that are true experts on this. I just used ice on my car this past week and was very pleased.

i dont think so....i used to clay bar my old car every week too, not only was the car lookin like a mirror and feeling like velvet, it was also a lot easier to detail in between washes....ive also notice that not washing and claying my car resulted in a lot of dirt build up really quick, i tried givin my car a quick wipe down with quick detailer and it felt like i was scratchin the paint, so i went home and had to was my car twice, this is all because i havent clayed in like a month due to the rainy weather...you also need lubricant thatll nourish your paint...any way i just bought a BIG mild meguiars clay bar over at autobacs, gonna try that one today to see how my car comes out....

good rinse down, then a good soap down, then a good rinse off, then a good dry off, then park your car in a shaded area, then get your tools our ie clay bar and lubricant, which ever clay bar and lubricant you prefer, ( i like to mix meguiars clay bar with ice quick detailer), find a good place to start ie the hood, mist part of the hood with lube (detailer, clean water), and ONLY in the part thats lubed rubb the clay bar over it, ( i like to go up and down motion), do this like your rubbing dirt off your car, next just wipe off and do the next section, (the whole car usually takes me like an hour to an hour and a half)....now notice the difference, glide your hand across the spot you just did and then across another spot on the car, MAJOR DIFFERENCE... it also feels a bit better after a layer of wax after the clay bar.....
