Engine Clean

hey i just had a quick question for anyone who may know ... not on the 8 but on cars in general what do you have to cover up (battery alternator etc?) before washing the engine and what general way do you wash it ... any help will be appreciated thanks

I use a wet and dry rag. At most, I would just disconnect the battery, but that's a little overkill.

It's a hell lot harder than just hosing into the engine bay, but that method would scare the hell out of me...

*edit* I realize I may not have even been on topic.

I remember seeing a few full car wash threads, and people recommended covering the batteries, fuse box, plugs, airbox openings, etc. How they did it, I'm not sure. I think duct tape would work.

thanks for the info thats what i thought im gonna go at it on my dads car first to see what happens lol ...

i take a black garbage bag and cover the alternator, battery, and ecu.

i then use blue painters masking tap to keep the bag tight.

I then use simple green on the motor. I go to town btw.

Then I scrub some of the really dirty parts.

Then rinse with hose. I have never had a problem with this.

I do however stay away from the can products like black magic engine degreaser

i also cut the simply green down a bit with water. like 75/25 water
