Would this be legal in BS?

Word is that Mazda will have a 40th Anniversary Edition RX-8, with new interior color, new wheels, blah blah, and retuned suspension. Lets say retune means stiffer, would it be legal to use the stiffer springs and still stay in BS? Or would the rule make me change seat color and add big badges as well?

There is no update/back date in stock so you could not make your older car into a "40th" car. If you had an RX-8 that was the same year as an "40th" car you could convert to "40th" specs but you have to copy it 100% except things like paint and items that have no "performance value". Now keep in mind there is always the chance a special edition car would not get put in the same class as the standard car. I would guess that the "40th" car will be a porker and even a better set of springs will leave it well behind the base car.

Ah, you just made me realize something... so the cars that dominate BS are Sport trim. Makes sense. I have a GT, so I better forget running to compete. :P

No, they are base trim.

Oh, there was a base trim? And yes, in 07 there is no base trim. Sport was the lowest.

If you aim to win, at some point in time you're going to run into someone just as good as you with a "better" car. Not saying I can drive, but if I'm ever going to get back into autocrossing it will be to actually compete.

I think the main thing is the extra 100lb or so added to the sunroof and power seat. Just go on a diet

I have a GT too, and I'm doing fine...at the local level at least.

I think we found the difference to be about 80 lbs from base to GT.

Oh, if that's the case I'll just empty my gas tank and offer everyone else free gas.

They just changed the names around. I have an 07 Sport model without the "Performance Packgage" which is equivalent to the previous year's Base model without the "Sport Package" (i.e. no xenon headlights, no DSC, no foglights).
