It seems that track events (HPDEs) require that the windows are rolled down. Anybody ever consider using those window rain deflectors to reduce wind noise and potentially improve aerodynamics? Has anyone used these things for the RX-8 and are they sturdy enough? They would probably help the in car camera from getting so much wind noise in the recordings.

I was remidnded of this from this video footage from Edmunds between a Civic Type R and S2000.

The Civic is using those rain deflectors on the doors. I'm pretty sure it doesn't come stock that way. Not sure why they didn't run with the S2000 top up though. My friend tested it at Roebling Road and his S2000 was faster with the top up down the straightaawy.

On a side note, I love those Best Motoring videos. Those Japanese drivers are funny to watch battling it out in different cars. The camera angles are really good and you can see the in-car speedo and footwork, to see how the pros do it.

I've run a couple rain events in the 8, and not much rain gets in at speed.

I'm not worried about the rain. I was wondering about their use during the dry to keep the wind out. Besides, I won't go out on the track when it's raining or too wet. I'll wait it out. Autocrossing in the rain is one thing, but you have to be super careful on a track.

Hell...If I stayed off the track in the rain...I'd miss 1/2 of the track days....

Currently use them. not for track, but because i smoke and can roll the window down a bit when raining.

anything lower then about 4 inches and you get rained on

does not help the wind noise at all, maybe even contributes to it.

I gotta agree with Apostle. Recently, I put these on my Dodge 1500 pickup and they do come in handy especially when parking your vehicle in the sun to ventilate some of the heat building up.

However, it does seem like as soon as the window rolls down past the lower edge of the deflector the wind roar practically doubles!

If you put them on just be patient and get everything lined up straight. The sticky tape provided with mine is not very forgiving!!

I've been lucky. Only had 1 event that it rained and only get really wet on part of the track. We get that crazy patchy rain in Florida and it doesn't last long. 3/4 of the track can be bone dry and there could be a downpour at 2 corners.

Thanks, good to know. I guess if doesn't reduce wind noise when the windows are fully rolled down then I won't try it.

Bah. Just tip toe around! It's good to get some rain line time in. Just avoid paint, brake straight, turn in later, get on throttle smoother than usual.
And yes, the wind buffetting really hits the camera mike!
