Question Wheel and Tire Auto-x Setup?

Forgive my "newness", I am sure that this has been covered in other threads. I just purchased an 05 and am in the market for a good wheel/tire setup that will allow me to stay in B-stock. I am currently running an 04 MS miata. I have had decent success this year with it, but having driven both cars now, the rx8 seems to be the better of the two. Thank you in advance for your input.

Chuck

After the Dunlops get a little wear in them, I plan on putting MX's on for the street. On the miata, I run Hoosier, but the Khumo 710's seem to be pretty good. Havn't checked the sizes yet though...

Sorry, not trying to seem lazy or cause confusion. The latest edition of Sportscar Magazine has the national results and B-stock seemed to be run over with rx8's... Just wondered what the majority setup for suspention/wheels/tires was. I plan on searching for the answer, just wanted more input.(which wheels, offset, tires, ect..) Having read some of the threads, the people on this forum seem to know what they are talking about. Didn't mean to be unclear... my appologies.

no problem, it wasn't clear to me if you were asking about street tires or actual race tires

Then there is the front swaybar.... Stock, stock with extra hole, Mazdaspeed, TeamRX8 all of them were in the top 9 spots at natls. No clear best bar yet.

A few people have drilled an extra hole in the stock bar... Moving the endlink forward on the stock bar will make it a tiny bit stiffer. Joe did that on one side of his.

Stay away from the TeamRX8 bar... It will make your car turn in to good and you will hit cones costing you a natl championship. If you use this bar you will spend the next year talking about how fast your CODRIVERS raw times were.

ULLLOSE, that is exactly the answer I was looking for... I knew that you could change the front sway bar, but I didn't know you could "modify" it by drilling any holes. Where exactly are you drilling a hole at? Can you change the end links as well? Thanks to everybody for their time and input.

Same questions here about the front sway bar. I have noticed too much under steer and I was wondering if this mod will make the car more neutral or emphasize more over steer?

Great info here so far. Thanks!

if you have understeer you don't have something setup properly; alignment, tire pressure, driver.

I would start with the driver (jaja!) What I can tell you is that almost every time I am pushing the car while cornering, the car under steers a lot. I can't get the back loose.

I even noticed this on the first RX8 I test drove. So, it may be the driver...

Just picked up my base RX8 on Saturday. I had to drive a ways to get it, so it is all broken in. Can't wait to get it set up for next year.

Is everyone running SSR Comps or are there alternatives? I have looked, and there does not seem to be anything close to them, but was wondering. I watched you guys run at nationals and I can't remember any other type of wheels. Even the custom wheels out there (e.g., Kodiak) seem to weigh more for a higher price.

Koni's are the only way to go at this point? I am tempted to go with the D-spec Tokico's because of the apparent ease of adjustment, but it seems that everyone is rather dubious about how good they will be.

Where do you get the Team RX-8 bar?

Thanks.

I don't recommend changing from the OE endlinks unless you have a coilover setup and are doing corner balancing, then you need adjustable endlinks. The OE endlinks are fine unless you go to an extremely stiff bar setup.

The drilled hole isn't worth much, maybe 10% at best, which in swaybar rate terms is almost nothing. It's better than nothing I suppose, but IMO not anywhere near what the car responds best too when fully setup. The Mazdaspeed bar is only a bit stiffer than the drilled hole, still too soft IMO and the RB bar is way stiffer than OE which IMO is way too stiff for most conditions.

The TeamRX8 bar is max strength/min weight tubular chromemoly, pwdercoated black to have an OE appearance, has 5 adjustment positions and comes with sturdy alignment collars and greasable urethane bushings with plated brackets. It fills a good part of the gap between the MS and RB bars. Unfortunately it's been pure h-ll getting them built. Thought they would finally be done several weeks ago and they boffed the adjustment hole locations. Another delay while they redo the entire order. I refuse to compromise on the intended quality, so they won't be out until they're right. It will be a short run, only 25 bars. I don't intend to have any more made after that.

So would it be safe to assume that the teamrx8 bar is a happy medium between the MS and RB? If so, where would someone aquire one.

it won't work without the decoder ring and combination though

I would prefer that people email me with swaybar questions: TeamMazdaRX8@aol.com
