TrackDaze: Summit Point Weekend 5/14-5/15

Hey everyone. I'm planning on attending this event as I went last year and it was a great time. I was wondering if anyone else on the forums is interested in coming along. Last year Stryker8 and Wankelbolt attended. The details are at the link below.

RX-8s on the Shenandoah circuit. Good times!

I've heard the Corvette crowd whine about the "Shen being a straightjacket for their cars". Might be due to the R32s, Miatas and S2000s chewing on their rumps between the straightaways.

I've got some issues going on, but might be there anyway. Taking a break from all the crap here is why I have the -8 to begin with.

Sweet deal Francesco. I'll be there both days this time. It should be a lot of fun. The Shen is real busy but it's a blast.

Hopefully by then i'll have a gopro camera, be running full synthetic, and using the SOHN adapter for my OMP.

OK OK I'm going...

Got some smaller wheels with stickies. Have to do some work installing gauges and other clean-up, but I'm in.

Looks like we may have 5, that's right, 5 RX-8s there, though I'm the only instructor with one. Looking forward to seeing Gdawg and (hopefully) Striker! Let's go beat up on some expensive iron...

Hey William, will you be there both days? I was going to request you as my instructor if that is ok with you. I want to get the most out of the weekend and hopefully get solo'd off on sunday. I currently requested Timothy Brownawell (very fast Evo10) as my instructor but I can get that changed. Thanks for your time.

Who's this "William" person? Oh, right, me! Just call me Bill. For some reason I can't stop writing "William" when people ask me to put my name down.

I'd be happy to instruct you. I just hope I'm as good as Timothy. I'll be there both days. Can't wait to flog the heck out of the 8!

Bill,

I requested you for saturday and sunday. I decided that I will be going both days. What does everyone do on saturday night at the track? I'm bringing a friend from home as well. Should be an awesome weekend.

I'll be there with my Vado HD (going to try two back-to-back), ordinary Rotella T 15W-40 dino juice (see my "Oil is Oil" links in sig ), and premixing 8 oz/tankful.

Cool! Looking forward to it. It's a harder track to learn on, but a great track for the RX-8. It really shines there.

There are going to be six RX-8s there, four of them in the Novice group. Another in Intermediate group, and me as the only one in the Instructor group. Saturday we should get all of them together for a group shot.

Guys to look for are:
Me
Garrett (you )
Nicolas Kikis
Francesco Chinnici
Karsten Grinderslev (intermediate)
Andrey Zelenovsky

I don't know who those other guys are. Which one is you, L337?

Nothing much usually. People are pretty beat after a full day on the track. I think many live close enough that they go home. I camp out in my truck. It's not like a typical SCCA race weekend where we are up drinking beer and bench racing until early in the morning.

im happy either way. i was at NJMP in april when the tristate area was getting molested by thunderstorms and torrential downpours. My best session was when the track was wet.

Another ominous portent is my Cobb AP developed the infamous Black Screen of Death yesterday. And they are going to charge me $35 to fix their design defect.
Of course, no way to uninstall it if you can't see the screen, so I can't install another one to take some data this weekend. Stupid DRM.

In an attempt to appease the Rain Gods, I'm going to show up prepared with my rain tires on. Maybe that will make it sunny and dry.
Then I can thrash around in the paddock and put the slicks on between sessions. Fun.

if you have a chance, do the MAIN circuit at summit point, its really a good one. and FAST. the front straight is so long, i hit 140mph (!) in my BONE STOCK rx8 a few years ago. not as technical as the shannendoah one, but reallllly fun :-)

I run both, and like both for their different approaches. "Main" is truly old school road racing, while the "Shen" is twenty-plus turns of technical malice.

Keeping all appendages crossed that the daughter's Suzuki stays running right tomorrow. I really, REALLY need a track break... but won't get it this time Missed the cutoff.

140 mph I find that hard to believe.
I would have your speedo checked.
