Track day - Zhuhai, China

I have took my turbocharged RX-8 to her first track day in Zhuhai China! I am very happy with the handling of the car except overheating at 34C climate. I have to concentrate on cool the engine for the next event in October.

There are many nice cars on the day, except a 997 GT3RS got smacked into the tire wall, ouch...

I don't know if his gap is on purpose, but that's an old trick to assist airflow through the engine bay to keep things cool.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.......was kinda wondering about that. In the sig it doesn't appear like that, so it must be somehow adjustable?

I have to raise the hood to keep the air flow, as my new hood didn't arrive in time for the track day. The track day is a very causal, turn up and drive kind of thing. No time trial or racing, just an open track to have fun!

Loved the photo album...thanks for posting all those great pics!

I did the same hood trick on my RX7 a few years ago because I didn't wanna drop money on a new hood...not sure if it helped too much.

Ouch on the GT3 RS

They all look very serious. No timing involved?

looks like a lot of fun, some serious machinery shows up to track days over there.

and that GT3 RS, that looked like a huge impact to do all of that damage, hope the driver was ok. b/c the car is toast.

No timing involved as my car suffer from overheating and the organiser did not provide timing for the cars. The GT3RS is bashed quite badly but poeple say it is fixable!! The driver is OK but shocked and a sore neck.

Are you running a upgraded radiator or other cooling mods? I'm very interested in your experiences here as I will be doing my first track weekend with a turbo next weekend.

I have fitted Denso radiator but that no good enough. I would suggest you fit the thickest possible radiator and a pair of strongest radiator fan you can find. Also, you want to consider raising the bonnet and remove the rubber stripe like I did in the picture or change the bonnet with vents. Otherwise, I will see you getting overheating problem for sure.

That is a very comforting explanation haha.

I am sure you will gain a lot of respect to be the first one to get it sorted

I've seen a few people rise the hook like that, how much did the under hook temp dropped? I believe the transition between the hood and windshield is actaully a high pressure zone instead of low pressure, so it probably don't help much, if any.

It helps a little better than having the bonnet sealed!

34C is not even hot!

How can you over heat.

We run from 95 degrees to 105 degrees... Sometimes more.

Ok 34c is hot but we run hoter in several states here.

Tell us more about the Zuhai track. I will pass it along to my friends in Guangzhou.

Does your car run with turbo? The turbo system can raise the engine temperature quite significantly.

As for Zhuhai International Circuit, visit http://www.zic.com.cn/

Forced induction makes a lot more heat under the engine bay.

And yes, 34 degrees C is very hot.

How far is Zhuhai to HK?

Cars from HK can pass freely to China? It looked like nothing but HK plates on those cars? Or do the Chinese plates look the same now? I'm obviously many years behind. I haven't been to HK in 7 years.

Each track day has to organize with authorities in China, which provided each car a special temporary license for entry to China!
