Team Autocross
So a local group organizes a team Drag/Bracket racing league. It doesn't pit two cars directly against each other, but rather your ability to predict your time. The idea was to pit car clubs against each other and get drag racing off the streets.
It got me thinking... could you make team Autocross work? You'd have to do something similar to a pro-solo, adding together the times from each team member to get the final "score" of the team, lowest still wins... but the math around combining PAX indexed scores together like that from different classes isn't all that clear to me... what values would you use when one teammate is CS prepped and another STX vs. 2 CS cars?
What kinds of rules would you want to enforce? I thought it might be interesting to say something you must include one stock class car (to help out the indexing problem). I've been trying to assemble fake teams using the results from old BSCC and NWR SCCA events and seeing how the scoring would work out... I dunno, i think it would work. What do you guys think?

The 'math' wouldn't be at all difficult. If you want to use the PAX times, just add them together. Each driver's raw time gets multiplied by his or her index, then you add the teams' times up.
It's sort of a gimmicky idea, but we do something similar a couple times a year called a 'grudge match.' When somebody accepts your challenge, you each do three runs in your own cars and then swap for another three. Best combined time between the two cars wins.
Your version just wouldn't have the drivers swapping cars, and you'd be adding PAX times instead of raw. In our grudge matches, we can use raw times because class doesn't matter when you're driving both cars anyway.
Your 'team' match is an interesting idea because it doesn't require you to hand your keys to somebody else. We have a relatively small and close-knit club, so there's a lot of trust. We can always say 'no,' too.
Gimmicky or not, these are fun additions to local events.

The Detroit Council of Sports Car Clubs (DCSCC) does a year-long team competition. I haven't been a part of it, so I'm not super clear on how it works. "Burglar" on these boards is the points keeper for the series so he would know a whole lot more about it. From what I hear, it's a super flawed system. It can be found in the DCSCC Rulebook at the bottom of page 22.
Apparently, you get a couple of points according to the place that you get in the class weighted by how many entrants there are, then you subtract your time deficit in seconds from the class leader and add 10 to get your event score. These points are added up over the season and the team score is the sum of the scores of the top three drivers in the team.
Anyway, it's recognized as an imperfect system out here, so it's really just for fun.

The other problem I was thinking of is you need someway to... class the teams. I tried assembling realistic teams (based on friendships between drivers) from some of our old events and it didn't work that well... one team was 20 seconds down which didn't seem right.

The modification level of the car sets the class and the class sets the index.
If your car is in STX then take your time, multiply it by the STX index and add it to the team's score.
If one of your teammate's cars is in AS, then take his time, multiply it by the AS index and add that to the team's score.
As far as picking teams, well, that's always tough. I don't think there's a good way to do that.

Philly region almost always has some sort of team match against DC region late in the season. I'm not good enough to have been invited so far, but I think they take 10 or so drivers from each region and calculate scores the way NotAPreppie described. So it pays to have more drivers in "soft" PAX classes.

lol, can I take my 3 best runs and call it a team? Or could I let every team double count one member's best time? You could do some fun "bonus" options for stuff like that if a member of a team won a given class, for instance.
