Recommended rules changes (not yet approved by the BOD): STX gets updated emissions rule. Big changes to the rest of the ST* classes. A new SSP is created, and the Evo, STI, Solstice, Sky, Boxter, and 370Z are moved out of BSP (good news for Zelse). The FD RX7 stays in ASP.

Well I am going to give myself a big pat on the back for winning the STX class of 8 cars today in my pretty much stock Rx8. We were racing with the SCCA at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

Nice vid Trevor, where'd you place?

And congrats on the win Wright! I wish I could say I could win in a nearly stock Rx8, haha. I was 4 seconds behind the winning Subie on day 2. I don't know who got 1st on Day 1, gotta wait for the results for that.

I ended up placing 2nd for the event in STX. Lost to National Champ Doug Hitchcock in his 89 325i.

Ah, nice. Good job on staying up there. Heck, I came in a nice whopping 6th out of 10 the first day, and 7th out of 9 the second day. Definitely got some improvement to be doing. I feel though, just between the first day and the second day, I improved a decent bit. At least with my comfort of pushing it.

(Second day first, just because it has better quality audio.)

@MS Addict nice runs, I think you need new brakes. Your line looks pretty good just need to get more aggressive with the gas pedal. I have had lots of great drivers drive my car and each time they have gone quicker than me but then I end up being able to get just as fast as them if not faster, after knowing that the car will do it.

I've actually got pretty much brand new Carbotech XP8's on there. I just don't think I've managed to break them in properly. Only putting them on for the events, then taking them back off. Though I have been told I should go to something with less bite.

And yeah, I guess you could say after giving it too much throttle the previous two events, I've gotten a little skittish with it. But yeah, day two, I got to ride while someone else did a run in it, and that was incredibly helpful for me.

Based on personal experience, XP8's are a bad pad choice IMO. They're a track pad, work best at temperatures well above those generated on an autocross lap.

Yeah, I've noticed I don't use them near as much as I had expected, but I am planning on keeping them around for the track days I go to next season, hopefully.

I nearly said do you have track brakes on but edited it out. To get heat in your brake pads you can drive and brake with your left foot whilst accelerating with the right, just before you do each run. Thats what we always used to do when we were driving big old trucks in the military.

Yeah, I do that when I can, but when you pull out of grid, straight forward two car lengths to the start, there's only so much you can do, haha.

But yeah, because racebrakes. Haha.

Got two more events here this season, down at VMP. I'll at least be going to one of them, perhaps both.

As far as VIR next season, I really hope to.

I'd suggest leaving your street pads on the car for autocrosses instead of swapping back and forth to the XP8's - normal street pads will surely work better - and save the XP8s for track use.

It was stopped because a car lost a radiator hose and put so much coolant down over a long area that there was no way to get it cleaned up before the day ran out due to all the other issues and delays. We finished cleaning and setting up the course in the dark. Heavy fog was one delay, an STR Honda S2000 took a fairly hard RF hit into the wall early during first runs was another, an ASP Vette got into a tire wall but no real damage.

It was also 30 deg in the AM. The timing truck is completely blind of the course after the first turn or two and dependent on radio traffic. The timing system crashed late in the day too, plus a lot of minor delays from reruns due to spins, noobs stopping because they hit a cone, etc. The day is short too, completely dark by 7 PM.

Bummer. Sounds like this is not proving to be a successful experiment.

At the last event I went to, we had a ton of fog up until the first car was scheduled to run. It went from not being able to even see the first gate, to seeing the whole course in 5 minutes.

That freaking blows though.

So will STX 2012 be Spec RX-8 with some E36 BMW's sprinkled in? How many former CS cars are being converted to STX trim since God's Chariot is no longer allowed to run in the class? I understand the feeling that the 8 can't get it done in CS anymore, but can't the BMW's get more out of STX allowances? Wondering out loud as I contemplate the future.
