I don't have much to contribute to this thread, but I finally got the RX8 out of hibernation last weekend. With only three weeks until the NJ Pro, I'm hoping the Rival S is fast and easy to drive and requires zero setup changes. First event is this Sunday.

Also, glad to see there are still a good number of people still running RX8s in STX this year. Good luck this season.

They are good tires,....but will probably need a setup change. At least mine did.

It will be cool to hang out again Dave.

Yeah, reviews have certainly been mixed. I'll barely have three heat cycles on them by May, so I might not get much opportunity to tune the setup. At least I'll have a good excuse when you and Jeff (...and Don and Corey) all kick my ***

And yeah, I'm just going to have fun anyway. Looking forward to it.

Sucks to hear about the transmission -- must be all the grip from those bstones

Well I tried the Rival S this past weekend, and the car had tons of grip but was very pushy. The data also showed more grip in the early evening vs early afternoon (temps were pretty much the same), so I'm going to say they were faster after a heat cycle. I'm going to put the rear bar back on and try again next weekend.

I put the low mileage used trans in tonight. The clutch was pretty bad also.

It feels so much better now.

I can't wait to run on Sunday.

So, I've decided to run with a local guy that has an RX-8 in our Pro class (I have lots of RX-8 parts - he has a clean, 2005 Sport partially prepped - it just makes sense ). Wondering if I could get some good baseline stuff to share so I can get him up to speed a bit in prep...

Eric: You guys running 255s?

What sort of alignment are you guys running? I think he had around 2.0/1.7 with PSS9s, but the front felt like it could be better with more camber.

B'stone guys... bars front and back?

How much to stock seats weigh vs. 25lbs min?

I'm sure we'll have more questions after an event or two...

I am on 245's

Right now I have -3.0 front/ -2.2 rear

Running bars on both ends

I don't remember the weight savings, I did a seat to help hold me in.

Enjoy,

Welcome to the dark side Randal! Are you sure you will be able to deal with the lack of Torks after the BMW?

Be prepared for being belittled for asking questions like that on this forum. Some form of search n00b will likely be the first response.

From conversations with Eric, he's running 245s.

I'm running 2.5* of camber in the front and 2.0* in the rear.

I'm not running stones, but on RS3v2s, I'm running a Hotchkis MX-5 bar on the front at full stiff and a stock rear bar. Obviously, bar choice is going to depend on other factors like spring rate.

Stock manual seats are 34lbs, the leather seats are much heavier. There's a great thread on weights of stock components, check it out.

It may have more to do with who's asking, how, and their attitude in general like perceiving what was stated above when in fact it wasn't the case. Besides most of us know Randall well. That said many OE part weights are well documented on the forum. Forgive me for not remembering the specific weight or also not searching it for you and handing it to you on a silver platter, and then to top it all off suggesting that you take take the time to look for yourself.

The absolute nerve of some people like me, eh?

Love you too, Mark

I thought I recall talking with Sparks / Fossum about the weight not really being that much of a help, so that weight makes sense. Search confirmed

fourwhls: No need for TQ when you have gearing. I always like to say that the RX-8 feels like it's powered by "hopes and dream". I never feel like, "Damn... just not enough get-up-and-go." Just enough to get the job done. When we get the new car a bit more prepared, I'm sure I'll have that feeling

I feel like I'm just not going to believe this 245 vs 255 thing until I get a set of both and run them back to back to get my own feedback. Hopefully my parts + Wes' car will yield some good results locally and we'll have some time to test it out a bit.

I think it matters because it adds up cumulatively; 30 lbs here, 10 there, etc., though a good basic setup and ultimately driver skill matters the most

And when you start with a GT, you spot everyone about 80lbs (i think...haven't done the math in a while). She's a heavy one!

If this car ever ends up going to Nationals, I have no doubt you're spot on. For now, we're still on the major themes. Speaking of weight, though... STX Weight and power - SCCAForums.com - SCCA Racing Discussions - - that still your "peak" STX weight?

2690 was the lowest, but likely close to sucking air from the fuel tank. It was for nought due to other issues as per my previous reply. Doesn't mean it didn't matter. In my mind it was just a wasted opportunity that failed to be capitalized on.

Ran the car this weekend with the rear bar installed - it felt great! I had some cone trouble, but the raw times were very quick. My slowest, and only clean, run was good enough for 9th in PAX out of ~150.

Current setup:
Tires: 245/17 Rival S
Springs: F: 616 lbs/in, R: 448 lb/in
Swaybars: F: Racing Beat 1.25" non-adjustable, R: stock yellow dot

Here is a video from yesterday:

I ran this weekend as well and had a solid finish in results. 1st in class and 12th in PAX of 175 drivers.

I was tweaking the car trying to find a more "loose" setup that I was happy with. First couple runs were a little all over the place, but slowly dialed the rear to where I wanted and it started to come together.

This was good enough for the class win, and 2nd on index with the Indianapolis SCCA. 1st in index was a local class called SMS, which is SM on street tires with STU pax. Lol 'lil soft I think!
