speedshifting will result in a definite countershaft failure in a very short amount of time, sooner if you're on sticky race tires

I destroyed 3 gearboxes, 2 3rd members(diff's) and 1 engine..(engine lost compression from my abuse).. the MORAL of my story.. not worth drag racing your Rx8. car was not really built for that. Car is to heavy and the drivetrain is to weak.. many years later. Mazda has done nothing to improve on the design. and I have done all kinds of research. Including talking to mazda's R&D

cheers and happy new year..
Wow, Judge Ito... I used to read his posts when I had my RX8 years ago.
He sure does know how to drive the hell out of an RX8. I think he posted the best time ever for a bone stock, so it's not a bad idea to listen to his advice.

At the same time, would like to see folks figure it out without destroying the car.

The gearbox is fragile - forks, synchros, gears themselves - yes they're not designed for a lot of torque or heavy abuse, but in general, they are known to be pretty weak.

Alright, by how many posts there are about the issue. I understand that the tranny and components are weak... What would I be able to do to "toughen" up the components so they are able to take moderate amounts of abuse? Which components to upgrade and how approx.

It will cost you around $3500/trans and then it will still break, just later rather than sooner

3 years ago I was going to have G-Force transmission make me a stronger input and output shaft, gears and some axles, but I decided not to race the Rx8 anymore.

Maybe if your serious about it, you could call Mike Long @ G-Force and talk to him about helping you beef up your drivetrain..

What did you do to your rx8 to get it in fighting condition(power wise)?

that was a long time ago. not worth talking about it.. One thing I could tell u is, I ran second gen coils with no split on trailing and leading..
both spark plugs firing at the same time..

when it comes down to N/A the Rx8 has tons of hidden power.. just have to know what your looking for, as far as naturally aspirated. especially in the 5 and 6 ports..
